Absolutely amazingly good fun.

Sorry, not much interest in Eurovision in this household either.
Just bought a replacement phone housing on eBay. Didn't think there was much of a recession in the SE anyway but compared to now when the roads are heaving and every second house has a tradesman van outside on weekdays it was positively depressed. I am ashamed to say I found it more comfortable when conspicuous consumption was quite so prominent but that is just applying my inner MSE values to others.I think....0 -

A quick squizz at that website suggests that Motorail is dying out.:(0 -

Enjoy the salads! Last night I risked cucumber and carrot raw, but left the lettuce the others had.
Not in the least mean sprited, doesn't mean that I wasn't inconsiderate though.Doozergirl wrote: »Talking of eBay, that would be a great place to look for a cheap replacement.
Having bought a second-hand cooker (with the house), if/ when I buy another I think I'd like whatever reassurance there is from a new one. Plus I'd still need it to be delivered/ installed/ old one removed...
Think the first step is to get someone out here to look at the cooker (or at least discuss over the phone, I'm guessing a write off). Just tried turning it on at the wall and it's definitely still unhappy
I just typed then deleted what I think is the problem, as I don't want to give anyone else nightmares about their cooker
I'm quite pleased that there was a fire blanket in the kitchen though - not something I've ever used before, but I'll be making sure I always have one in my house from now on.
I wonder what's going to stop working next bank hol weekend

I HAVE to know what it was .... so I know what I'm specifically looking out for!

OK - I think the seal on the main oven door has gone, meaning that when it's in use, steam travels out. I think that yesterday some of this steam got into the electrical bits, meaning that the oven started making a bit of an odd electrical noise and the light for the top oven was flickering (even though it was off). There was a slight 'burny' smell too. So I switched the cooker off at the wall and put the aforementioned fire blanket over the cooker.
When I tried switching it on again this morning, the light started flickering again so I switched it off immediately. I'd guess it has reached the end of it's useful life. I'd estimate that the cooker is about 10 years old, and has spent all of it's life in a student household. With hindsight it would probably have been a good idea to get it serviced or something when I moved in.0 -
That's why I'm careful with product placement and gas boilers. Even the microwave chucking out hot air/steam onto the socket behind it makes me nervous .....I think .... steam got into the electrical bits...
I often wonder if I'm just mad and everything's safe ... because there must be thousands of people who will quite happily boil kettles under their gas boiler, or under an electrical socket.
This is why I really wanted a kitchen I could see from the living room - imagine if you'd turned it on and gone off for a bath! I like to watch while everything cooks, which means it being visible from the place I am most likely to be sitting/waiting.
As my kitchen will be separate it means I'm having to work out a really, really comfortable window seat to be constructed - and get a telly in there .... so that I can sit in the kitchen while stuff's cooking; otherwise I'll end up just cooking toast all the time (still/again).0 -

I was about to have a shower, and had popped back downstairs to put the washing machine on.
It might be nothing at all to do with the steam - I am no electrical engineer, and I've done no more than trying to switch in on (and very swiftly off) again in terms of investigating. That's just my best guess.0
