Yes, I hope so too.
The situation is largely a result of bad luck combined with a few life choices that didn't quite work out as hoped. A lot of positives have come from it all too, such as a beautiful young family, albeit now living in rather fragile circumstances. The challenges they face are nothing unusual, financial/legal, etc, and can probably be resolved with time and resources.
So I think I can help, just need to figure out the best way to do so.I was thinking of Mrs McT watching the news this morning. Kate Middleton is getting a hard time for walking on the beach wearing 'heels'. I felt that Mrs McT would be my kindred spirit, muttering at the TV 'but they are wedges, the best heels that you could choose to wear on the beach'. They just don't get her Hamish. Your wife I feel would understand.
:rotfl:
She would have been shouting out loud at the TV had she seen it.
Perhaps made even more funny by the fact she currently has a small broken bone in her foot, and has been forced by her doctor to wear, and I quote, "lesbian shoes" until it heals.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

100 hour weeks are horrible.
They're OK in short doses if you really love what you do.
I didn't used to mind them so much, but age and cynicism are catching up with me.I used to do very close to that at the hedge fund. They were planning on paying me about US$10-20,000,000 over the course of 10 years so it probably wasn't unreasonable.
Yes, I'm seeing a key difference here.....:rotfl:“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

You remind me a lot of a friend of mine. He took in a homeless heroin addict who had formerly been a mutual acquaintance. He cleaned the bloke up both figuratively (got him off the heroin) and literally (he stank: apparently it improved the takings from begging), got him into a normal way of life: 3 meals a day, got him signed on for the dole and then later helped him get a job at the local petrol station.0 -
One of those "how posh are you" articles, promoting a book, so not a quiz.

It'd take some time to pick out the questions/answers and put them into a grid to see what's what, which I'd do if my PC were better/faster ... but it's not.
My dad came from "posh", all lost during the War in an unusual twist of tragedies and events/circumstances; my mum came from "common/agricultural".... so I guess what I call things is a mix from how they called things when they met, then which of those were used in our home. But, although we had some of the posh words, we never had the income that is associated with the sort of people that use those words.
Dad had a posh voice when they first met and was hanging with a "smart set", doing things like popping to Nice for the day in a private jet. All that stopped once he met mum, a married woman with a child, get her pregnant, then married her and moved into her council house.0 -
I used to do 60 hour weeks but that was cleaning, so I did mind
£10 an hour though was definitely over-valuing my labour, even if it was at night.
Enjoying a bit of peace and quiet, as I have the house to myself this weekend
Otherwise I'm feeling a bit mopey. Loads to do, house is a bit of a tip. Things aren't looking good with the Bulgarian girlIt's been a bit on and off, and I want more than that but I don't think she does; not with me anyway. It's bit of a shame, as I do really like her.
Think I'll just have to try and keep busy.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

Interesting. My choice of words is U all the way according to that - apart from Mum, perfume and living room. But my shopping/car/pet choices are all over the place. Perhaps because I caught my language from my parents, who had no opportunity to indoctrinate me with class views about shops or cars because they were always totally skint having spent all their money on school fees. Anyway there isn't an option for second hand furniture and mongrel dogs!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Hope things aren't as bad as they seem - or that somebody else even nicer comes along soon.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? LOL, I'm not quite that angelic....
But yes, we've taken in a few 'strays' over the years and helped them back on their feet. It's sort of the nature of global living though. People can end up a very long way away from family and resources if it all goes pear shaped, so if you don't have friends that can help you're a bit stuffed.
It's quite humbling to realise that almost any of these situations could just as easily have been me given a bit of bad luck, so I do believe in helping those you know when you can, and hopefully one day they'll be in a position to do the same for someone else.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Now this exemplifies what distinguishes Hamish from the more obnoxious bulls on this forum, and qualifies him for the NPT!Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Shhhhhh Lydia..... That's supposed to be a NPT secret.
I'd hate to lose all my 'street cred' with the other bulls.....:rotfl:“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
