Happy Passover to all Jewish NPs, and those with Jewish spouses / relatives / partners, etc.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

My cat has for the past 2 weeks been having several daily episodes of growling, hissing, and generally carrying-on in an uncivilised manner for no good reason. We thought possibly something like toothache, and yesterday got the carrier down from the loft with the aim of ringing vet this am.

Since the appearance of the carrier there has not been a squeak out of her. We are unsure what to do next.

Any NP cat experts out there?

Doesn't sound like a distressed cat, sounds like an angry cat to me. Is one of the neighbourhood cats coming into your house and stealing your cats' food? Or walking outside the window?

When I am distressed I get angry, as does mauve squeaker.

Vets are mixed successes with cats. Squeaker is not herself ATM too, and I want to get her to the vet .

Not that I'm aware of. There's a half-grown Siamese kitten 3 doors down with marauding tendencies, but he tends to run away if she looks sideways at him.

Is your cat drinking more than normal? Eating normally? Resisting being picked up? Going to the loo as normal ( wee frequency and amount, and poo frequency, amount and consistency and ....odour. :o)

Those are things I would be particularly alert too if nothing else I could put my finger on. Is posture good? Appetite increased or decreased?

    No. Yes. No. Yes.

    Yes. No.

Currently sleeping. Looks like sweet little animal; nobody would suspect she can exhibit the personality traits of a rabid warthog.

Thank you for all suggestions. I guess the real test will be if hissy fits start again once the carrier is back in the loft.

On the diet front... I've just dropped down from class 2 to class 1 obese according to BMI (today is my official weigh in day).:D

It's one of those weird intermediate goals... Yay! I'm no longer very fat, I'm just fat!

    But it amuses me, anyway.

I'm fat. Luckily the world and his dog became obese, so it's not so obvious :)

Not sure what my BMI is. 5'1", weighed the other week at 9st7lbs.

Just found a calculator: "Your BMI is 25.1 - overweight".

25 is the top end of "healthy weight", so I just need to eat one less pie this week.
