Black/white answer: for a house "so old", with additions/alterations ... at £250k, yes. Full structural. There's 75 years of owner bodges that could have gone on there!

I'll be the one in the green dress with purple shoes, nails that look too long (hopefully) for typing and recently cut hair. Amongst the last to be dragged off the dance floor (dancing style: more enthusiasm than talent), and trying very hard to act like a normal, balanced, human being :)

I'll be the one at the side of the dance floor. Too shy to dance in public, & probably avoiding eye contact with most of the ladies!:o
I'll be in a dark blue combo. I'll most likely be wearing a lemon jelly tshirt!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Why? Why avoiding eye contact? We don't give you conjunctivitis you know? :p

You have girl -friends. You've had us help choose things. These women are just the same as them or us. Don't make them feel so hideous they are unworthy of a smile from mr blue suit / tshirt combo, just smile and nod at least. We don't bite. Not all of us, and even then, most of those that do Not til you know is better. :D.

Do you think getting teh house has triggered a nesting gene or is it just that spring is in the air?

Both. And I think it's been getting gradually louder for a while, but now I'm surrounded by people with families or planning them.

OH has got in from tennis and put the TV on.

There are Irish people telling jokes.

It reminds me of my dad who was a great raconteur.

Very good friend I was talking about earlier has gone from not wanting babies at all to wanting one very badly.

I'm feeling a bit more as if I've gone off the whole idea at the moment. Which is a bit late (-:
Puppies mind you, are grand. We perhaps unfairly told kiwi he reminded us of Mick Hucknall tonight. White but a bit ginger, bit of a unattractive grin but somehow charming and gets his own way by pulling the most hideous face ....

Puppies are great. Sister #1's puppy continues to mug very large border collies for toys which are too big for her:

Question - should I get a full structural survey? Approx build date was 1935. An upper floor extension has been built on.

at first I got very confused on the RICS website etc. I do think I've found a surveyor (though haven't had any contact yet) in a nearby town.

Some people have indicated the homebuyers report should contain enough info as the house is under 100 years old.

Am I being too cautious? Is there something to be said for the paying for peace of mind?

I would. The amounts of money at stake make caution pay, IMHO.

Anyways, onto a similar theme. I wonder if I'm getting twitchy about the survey. I've canvassed a few opinions, & advice has been contradictory.

You do have the benefit that doozerboy has had a look see, which I didn't, however...

My house is not that old - less than 20. When I appointed a surveyor, they said I didn't need a full structural, just the next one down. I said that I wanted a full structural and that's what I paid for. They did a homebuyers anyway, but didn't title it as such. When I moved in, within a week I'd identified several faults that weren't in the survey. The faults would cost £4.5k to put right. I threatened to sue and took it to letter before action, they paid.

So yes, full structural everytime. And also as I learned the hard way, never from the mortgage arranger, which threw its hands up in the air and said "not our fault".

However, given that you aren't buying a house that's somewhat close to the site of the biggest explosion in peace time in Europe, your issues may not be the same as mine.

I have form for dragging people onto the dancefloor :D
I struggle to dance in public completely sober, but after a drink there is no stopping me.

I'm 99.9% sure we won't be attending the same function this weekend, so you can feel safe to try making eye contact with the ladies where you are ;) You're sweet and funny and kind and perfectly capable of flirting - give it a go this weekend :)

Its a silly old world, here I am, knee deep in the stuff if only it were any use to me, and plenty of cohabiting friends who deny they have 'a clock'. I really miss that shrugging smiley.

I've never had a clock either. I don't dislike children but I can absolutely categorically state that I've never wanted any. If the only good reason you can think of to have them (as I did) was to look after you when you're old, that's not a good or fair reason.
