I think you've "made do" in the rented bits for long enough. This is now YOUR home. Treat yourself & your home to some of the nicer finer things. Surrounding yourself with things you love will make you happier, & make your home more you, & more homely.

If I did that I'd burn through my safety pot of cash like there's no tomorrow! I'd be happier with some security from cash in the bank, than a bunch of stuff that looked nice, or opting for a "nicer" choice that cost 2x what "you'll do" would have cost :)

That was what I meant. And feeling very aware there isn't infinite time, but a lot of groundwork to be done!

Very good friend I was talking about earlier has gone from not wanting babies at all to wanting one very badly.

DH and I have talked about him offering her a loaded turkey baster if she feels its needed later on. :D

Its a silly old world, here I am, knee deep in the stuff if only it were any use to me, and plenty of cohabiting friends who deny they have 'a clock'. I really miss that shrugging smiley.

Do you think getting teh house has triggered a nesting gene or is it just that spring is in the air?

A fortnight ago whilst at a gathering here, DD ex said he wants children in the next 10 years, spent the evening cuddling a new baby belonging to other guests then asked DD if she was planning of giving us grand children.

I don't think he was suggesting they combine their efforts.

DD responded that we would only have "grand rabbits":(

Right - last ones then I'm caught up :)

With respect, you've never met me! You lot probably all know what I'm thinking/ feeling in more detail than most people I know, but you only get my side of any story. And only the stories I want to tell.

    ....

I'll be fine. Just need my biological clock to stop ticking quite so loudly!
re para 1, I believe there is no you, or I etc. I believe that people are in fact a multitude of characters, or roles. I'm not the same here as with parents, & am different again with RL friends, and again at work, and so on. This multitude of characters makes up a whole me, but not one anyone ever really sees in full.

I've seen enough to know that you're a good, friendly decent person, who has respect for others, is considerate, and generous, speaks her mind, has self doubts, as we all do, but is motivated, independent, & always has a kind word for friends, as well as helping random strangers from the internet!

They're all good things imo. They're characteristics I aspire to, look for in friends, and appreciate my parents instilled in me.

We all have our moments, but you come out of this pretty well imo.

(I'm not going anywhere near that last sentence though. Even I know better!)

Tbf, I struggle with this challenge every day, as do most of us, if they'd admit it ;)

    I'm at a wedding saturday!

I'll be the one in the green dress with purple shoes, nails that look too long (hopefully) for typing and recently cut hair. Amongst the last to be dragged off the dance floor (dancing style: more enthusiasm than talent), and trying very hard to act like a normal, balanced, human being :)

It is nice of you to offer but I don't see how some gravy is going to help her.;)

What people say at a gathering and under questioning isn't necessarily how they feel.

How they feel today isn't necessarily how they feel in three years time.

    Rabbits are fine.

Puppies mind you, are grand. We perhaps unfairly told kiwi he reminded us of Mick Hucknall tonight. White but a bit ginger, bit of a unattractive grin but somehow charming and gets his own way by pulling the most hideous face ....

Anyways, onto a similar theme. I wonder if I'm getting twitchy about the survey. I've canvassed a few opinions, & advice has been contradictory.

Question - should I get a full structural survey? Approx build date was 1935. An upper floor extension has been built on.

at first I got very confused on the RICS website etc. I do think I've found a surveyor (though haven't had any contact yet) in a nearby town.

Some people have indicated the homebuyers report should contain enough info as the house is under 100 years old.

Am I being too cautious? Is there something to be said for the paying for peace of mind?

The right gravy can cheer most things up.
