NP wanting help with unskilled labour like box-moving have only to offer to host a meet up to get lots of NP arriving to help. (Well, probably most of us can't afford to go and move boxes for Gen, but I don't think he needs us to.)
lir, you should have had us all helping with something while we were at your place. That's kind of where I got to. I do really like this house, but about 51% of the time I think I paid a bit too much (esp considering the work that needs to be done)/ wonder how difficult it'll be to resell/ etc etc.
But, I don't have to look at Rightmove every day, I don't have to deal with estate agents again (hopefully until the time of my choosing), and I'm not living under someone else's house rules (/ paying for their baths, partner's baths). And nothing has come up since that I wish I'd hung on for (and prices are still creeping up).
You can't put a price on the feeling that you can just get on with the rest of your life
All those "I don't have to" things are how I feel about mine, and I agree - prices are creeping up ATM around here and presumably lots of other places.PasturesNew wrote: »If I do go ahead with this house, I'll have to create a private space where I can share details and I can mither you all to help finding stuff to put in it
But of course we will help.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I'm either a) not cut out for someone being nice to me, b) haven't completed my rehabilitation yet or c) both of the above
(b)
LNE taught me to take compliments (and lots of his female friends but of course only people he knew well). He would say something nice (I mean actually nice not cringy or attempting to pull), and then if the woman didn't take it well (usually by disagreeing and saying it wasn't really true) he would calmly tell her that the correct way to respond to a compliment was to smile and say thank you. He would repeat this more or less every time he saw whoever it was until she learnt. Several of us have reason to be grateful to him for that.Anyhow, I've had my random kiss for this year so I've probably got another year to try to sort myself out before it's an issue again! :rotfl:
You get one a year? That's more than I've been getting.PasturesNew wrote: »If I could offer and have it accepted.... then get to exchange in 2.5 weeks .... it'd work out OK
Years ago, with renting, you just used to give a month's notice.... not "to the original date you started" ... and I could try to negotiate it etc, but that just chews up energy dealing with agents and LLs abroad.
PN, if the house is right for you, and exchange isn't quick enough, then don't worry about the date. I mean, try to the get the date you want, but if you can't, then just pay both rent and mortgage for a week or three. It will cost you less than missing out on the house and continuing to rent for another few months while you look round for a different house to buy while all the time prices are creeping up.chewmylegoff wrote: »Effing hell. Just as I buy (nearly) a house outside London on the grounds that I am just about happy with a 1 hour commute, they have decided to move the office further away on the other side of London.
New job required.

Gen, I think your appointment is imminent, isn't it? Just to say I'll be thinking and praying for you as I go to sleep. :grouphug:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Woken up by Doozerdog having let himself out of the front door again.
Anyhoo, I found this and thought the nice peeps would enjoy a distraction.
Stay by Shakespears Sister was #1 on my 14th birthday, which makes it the theme tune of my life!
Find out yours.

14th birthday was showing when I opened it, so I left it at that.
Stay is a beautiful song, but I'm always reminded if the Mary Whitehouse Experience sketch. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gUgmKezH550
I loved that TV show. And Rob Newman.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The theme tune of my life is "pray" by take that! Ha!0

I'm not going to say what the Tune of My Life is as I absolutely detest it... let's just say it's a bit like wanting it to be Marvin Gaye and What's Going On (too early), and finding out that it's actually the Birdy Song.
Thanks for the distraction though.
Woke up thinking of Gen this morning. Hope you're ok chap. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Had brain ache through the night, not much sleep. Feel like a fragile jar of bees as really needed to sleep last night!
Oh well, DH home tonight.
This grim sky is trule depressing.0 -
Sorry lir, I have never contemplated a jar of bees but that's a really good descriptor. Sounds painful and tiring. Hope you manage to get an hour or so in later to replenish your levels and that the pain goes. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Mine was The Streak by Ray Stevens:eek:
In a bid to improve things, I looked at my 16th Birthday and got Combine Harvester by the Wurzels :eek: Sad thing is, I had moved to the West Country when was 15 so this is closer to the Truth than I want it to be.
Gen, ...it is clear you are in the minds and hearts of NP this morning, including mine.
