Today I viewed a house whose cabling for its and neighbours satellite was put in at the expense of ability to open two upstairs windows. Never mind the view of the cables right up by the house.

It didn't suit for other reasons but that would have ruled it out for me I think. I liked the much cheaper and quieter and smaller flat in a much nicer location but that didn't suit for reasons of the person who actually has to live there.

What's to stop you rerouting the cables?

Actually, now I think about it , why did satalites cables go to street poles?

Maybe it was electric cables that went in near dishes. That would make more sense!

Not the right house any way Tomterm. Very steep stairs an old person is likely to tumble down I think.

Isn't it usually telephone cables that are on street poles?

The pole we just had removed on our property had phone and electric on it. No idea about the rest. These were really thick cables though. Offensively so. Bigger than the single phase we have over head in the yard.

If il had had macputer I might have taken a picture :p

It's often both. It can also be fibreoptic / cable. As a rule, if you pay out to have one service go underground you often reroute the others too...

This is completely childish, but possibly MSE, on another forum, we have been kept amused by this

I buy books for my library authority. I've seem some strange titles, but never that one! The oddest books I've seen in the last month were one about killer garden gnomes and another whole book on etiquette should you happen to meet the Queen.

    Ya think?

I could write a novel about this.

As it happens I paid for one and got the others gratis , but not the traditional way.

Our pole was dangerous, and had I pushed I could have got both free, but time was of the essence and we had no proof until AFTER the job how dangerous it was.

The telegraph pole was sunk less deep than our fence poles are, at somewhere between 18 inches and two feet deep. Its not surprising I could see it moving!

Those of you who do some e writing have you been to any seminars or anything for inspiration/guidance? A friend has suggested one in London in May....
