As the perfect neighbour to Number 10, The Official Residence of the Nice People, Number 11 is the traditional home of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. We’re not too concerned about the economy in this thread, but the present Chancellor of the Exchequer doesn’t live in Number 11 either. George Osborne’s father did found the famous soft furnishing company, Osborne & Little, and as some of us are quite fond of home-making, I have chosen to furnish this thread.

Ground rules first, however. Nobody knows what happens to people who are not nice, but thankfully, in a staggering 100,000 posts we’ve never needed to find out. Please leave your disputes and snipes in the umbrella stand by the door and feel free to collect them when you leave.
Almost anything else goes.

The best people hang out in the kitchen at a party, so I’ve selected a lovely kitchen for us to gather in. Samantha Cameron has installed a Roundhouse kitchen in Number 11, so I've selected a beautiful one for us. Generali cooks so that angels dance on our tongues and mushrooms are kept in a sealed draw for those who don’t like their food contaminated.

Just pull a bar stool up to the island, pour yourself a cuppa from the integrated boiling water tap and we’ll start proceedings.

Like all builders, I’ve gone slightly over timescales so I’m still putting up this Osborne & Little wallpaper entitled “Swan [STRIKE]Lake[/STRIKE] Cake”. If you look carefully, the swans are, in fact, pedalos.

Many thanks to all those who have started previous Nice People threads. I am sure carolt had no idea of the epic she was about to create, but we are eternally grateful as fine friendships have been established within and without these virtual walls.

If you have an awful lot of time on your hands, the previous threads can be found here:

Great, I feel at home already. However now we have moved in can we throw out the vase of twigs the vendors so kindly left in the fire place and have a nice fire to warm up the in rates instead.

It IS cold today. DH made me wear my shorts but we've come in for a cup of tea (notably not a berrocca because I'm too cold) and I've pulled on track suit trousers instead. On the plus side, we already have over a third of the yard weeded after winter. this job used to take a LONG time! and its getting quicker, so we're obviously getting on top of it there with no chemicals. We're thinking that we'll leave that and go and do something else now (change as good as a rest) to jazz it up.

    Not cold here.

28C today and we had a wild thunderstorm directly overhead at 6pm. It's been hot and humid for weeks now, it's getting quite annoying.

Generali, there is no sympathy here. Sorry about that. You make your bed in some kind of tropical paradise, you lay in it. ;)

Subtropical. We have chilly winters. Some days it barely gets above 15C. Brrrr.

TBH the only time the heat bothers me is when it's above 38C. The weather should never be hotter than me.

Hope PN is getting on ok.

Indeed, superbly welcoming post, Doozer. :)

It is distressing me, though, that the old thread is at 9,947 posts. Can't we manage another 53 posts over there before we get well and truly settled into this one?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
