The sainsbury basics 20 ' s are down to 15p now so about the same equivalent price as the old boxes of 40 were.

Ok, so I bought the new Sainsburys Basic tea bags. They are in a plastic packet not a box. I bought 4 packs = 160 bags and I'm happy to say, apart from the packaging and price hike, they are no different from the old boxed square ones. Being in packets they are easier to store too.

So 'be not afraid' peeps, Sainsburys Basic, is still blooming good value and blooming good taste.

Yay!! Will give them a go next time I need tea, still have a box of the old square ones so may make two cups and test them together:D

I drink Tesco's Captain Scott tea. It's £1.55 for 80 bags so not the cheapest. But it makes a lovely strong and flavoursome brew :)

Sadly, Sainsburys basics teabags are not as nice as they were. Much weaker. That was the main reason I shopped in Sainsburys, so won't go in there at all now. Why did they play around with a perfectly good product!

    Wow.

So much praise for Sainsbury's Basics Tea.

Will have to buy a pack and give them a go.

Apologies for resurrecting an old-ish thread...

I bought one pack a couple of weeks ago. I thought why not @ 20p for 40 tea bags?!

Just went and bought 8 packs today.

From this and other posts you have made, I strongly suspect that you are not in the UK :D
No English tea drinker would consider Lipton anything remotely approaching 'decent' tea, hence the reason alot of british travellers take their own favoured brand of tea with them when they travel :D

Whenever I have been abroad the complementary tea tray in hotel rooms always had Liptons tea bags, and the tea was always weak as dishwater.
