Why economise on something as essential as tea? it is relatively cheap compared to coffee, so buy the best you can! That is my reconing, anyway

PG Tips works out at about 2.3p per bag, Sainsbury basics works out at about 0.34p per bag, I had a friend round who said she was glad I still used PG Tips (while drinking her tea) as a lot of people were changing to the cheaper teas. I showed her the box and she has now converted too.:D

Interestingly I changed when I realised how much I was spending on Tea bags, I could change back now but I choose not to. If I want a decent cup of tea I do have some loose tea and a pot.

The Sainsbury Basics is hardly just economising for the price. They are actually a very good tea bag even if just considered for the taste.

I thought Sainsburys Basics Tea Bags was my clever secret till I read this post. Now I know why they're often sold out in my local shop. I have been known to make tea with two bags and a spit of milk but these have a lovely taste.

Alternatively, why spend more than you need to on something as (un)essential as tea? They all taste pretty much the same unless you put in different amounts of milk or sugar or use loose leaves so buy the best value for money you can! That's my reckoning anyway.

If taste is the criterion, why use tea bags at all? They are a poor substitute for properly made tea, using your favourite loose leaves.

I normally get whatever is on offer, but reading this i wish we had a Sainsbury near by.

  • I still havent bought any still using up the last of my asda ones, I bought them so ill drink them. I love working with tea leaves and a pot but for work a teabag is seriously more convinient :-) I personally drink tea because I dislike water and squash/fizzy drinks give me acid .. oh and the caffiene is always a nice addition.

I managed to get my ex from spending a fortune on flippin' Twinings tea to being a huge fan of Lidl's Knightsbridge Red Label tea bags.

Only £1.99 for 160 and she says they're as good as Twinings.

So I bought her a load of boxes last time they were on the half-price weekend offer.

And the good news is that they are half-price again all this weekend. I drink them too and think they make a lovely cuppa and 99p for 160 tea bags is a bargain. I'll be stocking up again - why not give them a go?
  • I am a big fan of Yorkshire tea. If you have a Home Bargains store nearby you can get 240 bags for £3.99. B&M bargains also sell it for around that price, sometimes £3.79.
