I agree that Sainsbury's basic is the best tea for it's price, better than the other own brand teas and very similar in taste to PG Tips.

Just in regard to the price it has always moved between 27p and 30p for the last few years. Even at it's maximum price it's great value !!

I bought some tea bags in Home Bargains a while ago. Can't remember the brand but they were in a black box. They were vile and I ended up throwing them out. Will definitely give the Sainsburys ones a try.

Just been to Sainsburys, the old ones are no longer available. They are in smaller packets for 20p.

    Has anyone tried them yet??

Very excited by this thread - love my strong tea but needing to cut the grocery shop down. I've got some Sainsbury's basics hanging about (3000 nectar point offer when I did a delivery for the first time) but haven't tried them yet. I will go and do so :)
    Thanks all x

  • Ok, so I bought the new Sainsburys Basic tea bags. They are in a plastic packet not a box. I bought 4 packs = 160 bags and I'm happy to say, apart from the packaging and price hike, they are no different from the old boxed square ones. Being in packets they are easier to store too.

So 'be not afraid' peeps, Sainsburys Basic, is still blooming good value and blooming good taste.

Differing opinions on the "new look" Sains Basics T-bags so far then.

Will try them soon. Please could anyone else post their opinion if they've tried them yet? The hook for me (apart from the incredible price) was how strong they are (were??).

Well according to me Lipton is quite decent with your needs its strong enough

    :rotfl:
From this and other posts you have made, I strongly suspect that you are not in the UK :D
No English tea drinker would consider Lipton anything remotely approaching 'decent' tea, hence the reason alot of british travellers take their own favoured brand of tea with them when they travel :D
