Ryanair's new 7-day check-in rules

  • I guess we view things differently then jpsartre. Someone said that there was no evidence to say that Ryanair would charge for online boarding passes and every evidence to say that it would be a free service.

This evidence was given by way of pointing towards airlines who already offer this service free of charge.

My point was that there was a company who charges for the exact same service and they seem to have no trouble in getting hapless travellers to pay up.

As Ryanair don't exactly have a great reputation when it comes to customer service, I pointed out that as someone is making a profit from charging customers for this service, Ryanair could just as easily look to them when developing their own mobile service.

In my head that makes perfect sense! :D

But it's not the same service, that's my point. There's a big difference between an airline offering access to electronic boarding passes and a company offering to check in for customers. It's two completely different services.

Ryanair launch mobile boarding passes for "certain customers" on 1st July.

Fair enough, it's not exactly the same service. But CheckinPal do still charge to send on boarding passes - whether by email or post. I'm not sure if you can access this service separately to their online check-in service.

Ryanair initially said that they wouldn't introduce mobile boarding passes because there would be no savings to be made. That makes me think it's all about money. So I wouldn't be surprised if they did charge for mobile boarding apps or, as SavetheEuro has now said, for "certain customers" - which is just another way of saying that you'd end up paying for the service.

It's not so much the cost I mind, but the way they've done it. Telling customers AFTER the event and expecting those who had already booked and paid for flights way before the changes, to pay further costs because something which was free when we booked, is now no longer so.

  • The bottom line is that even with extra charges for checking-in on a holiday over 7 days Ryanair will still work out cheaper than virtually everyone else on that route.

That's why most of the people complaining had booked with Ryanair in the first place.

And £20 quid for a family of four ? - most people will spend that on their first round of drinks when they arrive at the hotel.

Context is everything in these debates.

And seeing the wood for the trees.

We certainly wouldn't spend £20 on a round of drinks for four abroad!

The local beer in Benidorm is still 1 euro a pint in many bars and that's good enough for me:beer:

Well, after a few pints of Benidorm's best beer:) you're past caring.

Hence the need to get it all sorted out before you leave home and while you're still able to concentrate:)
