Gave you a print out with a sum of money on it that you handed over to the cashier, was great for getting rid of all your 2ps and 1p coins.0 -
If I only have a note for the bus I usually start by saying "Sorry about this, would you have change? It's for a single to Manchester please". Never had a problem. I think if I just shoved it under their nose without querying it, they might be less accomodating.0

That's exactly what I did do.
I was holding the note to avoid the irritating scramble in purses when one gets on. He was just looking at my hand!
He grunted "with that?" Before I'd even finished stating my destination, I then apologised for not having anything smaller.0 -
I'm a Bus driver. I refuse to take a £10 note even if I can change it because if we take a fake we have to replace it with our own money. I'm so glad that we will no longer have to take cash fares later this year. Also many people try to get on the Bus free making out they only have a tenner and know full well we won't have change and think we will just let them on. I'm amazed that some have been waiting for a while within arms reach of a shop that they could have changed it up in. It does not hurt for you to go in a shop to get change, get a drink or something, you must walk past a shop on your way to the Bus stop.0

Mostly it's the public who have given us this attitude problem. You have no idea how hard our job really is. We have to take all sorts of abuse. You start the day jolly and by the end you end up not caring, it's nothing personnel though.0 -

No, actually I don't. I would never dream of trying to get on for free! Although I have been let on for free once for no apparent reason, another driver dropped me past the end of the route near my house because it was raining. I asked for neither of these things, they were just done!
Personally I've never seen anyone on the bus say anything but please, thank you and their requirement although I imagine there are some rough passengers. Requirement of 99% of jobs though.0 -
God this reminds me of my old job that was out in the middle of nowhere with no shops. I remember having only a tenner on me late one night after finishing my shift and getting told that unless I had the correct change I wasn't getting on. It was 2 hours until the next bus and a 5 mile walk to the nearest town. Luckily I was able to beg the change off one of my colleagues.0

I didn't mean you try it but many do. However it does annoy us when the same people keep trying to get on with a tenner or even a twenty. I mean are they having a laugh? A £20 note?0 -

In that situation I would let you on but there is no excuse in Towns0
