Bus driver rude over £10 note

I get the same bus home every day, at some points I have to pay for the fare with a £10 note as I run out of change.
Today I politely asked for my ticket and he responded "with that?" "Yes" "most drivers wouldn't let you on", he did begrudgingly. The issue wasn't that there was not enough change, obviously most people pay for their fare with change! He just seemed annoyed at the prospect of having less change (I am near the end of the route though).
I understand they want more change but the cash point only does £10!
Anyone know if they can refuse me with a note, is there an IOU type system as I've heard of being implemented in London? I don't feel there was any need for rudeness, it wasn't as though I wanted to pay with a fifty!

Best to ask the bus company as they all set there own rules. Is it quite common for buses to refuse to change large notes. Some bus companies don't give any change so unless you have the correct fare you overpay or get off.
No excuse for rudeness but you do need to be more organised and make sure you always have change for the bus.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
The problem is most bus drivers don't get given a float nowadays -and if everyone didn't bother getting change ...just what would you expect the bus driver to do ? Other people can get change before getting on thr bus after all -so why is it more of a problem for you especially?
If you get the same bus every day -why are you paying cash-surely a weekly pass would be more MSE anyway though ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I understand, I only use a note once every two weeks. Without spending money, how can I break into my note?
I only get it one way so the pass is more expensive.0 -

I know I should have change, but how do I get it? I can't pop into the one shop every week to ask them to change it for me.0 -
Go into a shop and buy something! You must have change at some point - save it for the bus!0

Do you never spend cash on anything else ?
If so a trip into your bank and ask for change.......if not just plan ahead more so you're not "caught short". Sooner or later you will hit unlucky and find the driver doesn't have change as the people before you used notes too and took all his change.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I really don't! That's fair enough, he mentioned something about a 'note' to use if you can't get change so will ask bus company about it!0 -
Every week my son draws out £6.30 out of his bank account for bus fares for college. They give it him in whatever denomination he asks for. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My local bus company is exact fare only, if you have a note they wont change it, they dont have the facility to and the money isnt handed to the driver, you drop the money in to a device when you get on the bus and you get your ticket.
If your bus company doesnt do weekly tickets, then surely you can buy something in a shop, even if its a packet of crisps so that you have change for the bus.
I can get my monthly bus ticket at a local shop and I pay by card so if I dont have cash on me, my debit card will pay for it.0
