Think yourself lucky, some buses (First in Edinburgh) wouldn't let you on or would take the note and not issue change! They are on a correct fair only basis, however without change you would end up overpaying.

Have a separate purse or use the zipped inner pocket of a large purse for your bus fare.

Here in brum, you have to have the correct change as the drivers do not have the ability to give change or you have a bus pass, if you have neither then you walk.

To say you can't get change is nonsense.

It's a First bus but definetly isn't correct fair only.

Regardless I don't think he should have been rude. To be fair I've been getting the bus for a long time and no one has ever complained about a note (£5 or occasionally £10!) before!

I can get change, but I don't want to have to buy something just to get it.

As someone else suggested go to your bank and withdraw what you need for your bus fare in coins on a weekly or monthly basis.

No need to be rude IMO, was it really worth him getting annoyed about? He it's have been having a bad day, l do echo what the others say though just keep some change for the bus.

    Happy moneysaving all.

If you're old enough to be catching a bus by yourself, I would assume you're old enough to manage to get your own change. Whether you do this by buying something to break a note, or by thinking ahead and popping to a bank to get change for the week/month is up to you, but it's not the bus driver's responsibility to make sure they have enough change for you.

They're a service, not a right, and as others have said, many companies would either refuse to take you or just not issue any change at all.

Ask your bank for a handful of those coin bags, and fill them all up with the exact bus fare. Carry a couple spare in the bottom of your bag, and pick up another one as you leave home every day.

As buses no longer have conductors I'm not really surprised that a driver, presumably in the rush hour, was a bit short with a passenger who was causing him to have to fiddle around finding change.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Go to the bank once a month & withdraw your bus fare for the month in coins.

I know I should have change, but how do I get it? I can't pop into the one shop every week to ask them to change it for me.

All the change you get from shopping, either from your food shop, or just the every day bits and bobs you buy, save it in a jar to dip into for your bus fare.

Most people have some sort of change in their purse. My Mam and I always empty our purses out and put the change into a money box at the end of the day.
