Getting caught / seen / not spotting plod isn't the issue. The issue is doing something wrong in the first place.
Not really -- failing to notice plod makes a bad situation worse. At least if you're alert enough to spot the police officer you were at least paying some attention.
The "doing something wrong" here is basically driving without due care and attention. How you arrive at that point is immaterial -- and not noticing potential sources of problems is careless in and of itself.0 -

So because YOU have a busy schedule, who cares what laws you are breaking, is that it?
How utterly arrogant and selfish.0 -
That reminds me, I've been meaning to fit my car with a louder horn...I might be breaking the law, but I have a busy schedule and I receive important info by text. I sometimes have to deliver equipment to clients and they all seem to send a text message rather than call to ask how long I'll be. That's frustrating.0 -
yesterday left for work and after a mile from home as I had my phone on my hand typping postcode..bike police on the back, so had to stop
Good. Bloody idiot in a van doing exactly the same thing nearly cleaned me up on my motorcycle yesterday morning by swerving into lane 2 on the A1 because he was so busy faffing with his sodding phone he didn't notice the slow moving traffic in lane 1.
Got just what you deserve, IMO.0 -

ah, another who's too important to stay within the law.
Most of the others are banned or dead - there's a lesson in there somewhere...The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
just pick up your phone to check the time.. bang £100 fine.
Of course "bang" maybe followed by something worse than £100 fine but still who would want to get in the way of your inalienable right to look at your phone or text whenever you wished to. It simply can't wait, right?0 -
No route of appeal as you are guilty of using your phone whilst driving.
Won't add anymore as there are plenty of detailed responses above.
This is why most factory fitted bluetooth systems have a voice dial function i would think.
Or at least the Ford and Jaguar systems do and i only have experience of them.0 -

Joking aside I've never held up traffic, always keep one eye on the road. never check messages when I'm in the front of ther queue in traffic as that is easier to miss.

Yes you are breaking the law.
A bit like using a vehicle to transport goods for hire and reward without correct insurance.
You can send a text without touching the phone.
As far as i am aware all recent Android and iPhones can do this.0 -
held to rights.
I seen a stop today for mobile phone use, and rightly so, I was waiting outside the school picking the kids up when the lady put her kid in the back closed the door when getting in the front her phone rang, I thought she would just sit in the car and take the call but started the car and proceeded down the street with phone sandwiched between her ear and shoulder as she put her belt on shacking my head in disgust as she did so, then my eyes lit up as at the bottom of road (a T junction) was a police car waiting in the traffic you could see him glaring at her, she was totally oblivious he was even there, he put his blue;s on and beeped the horn and told her to pull over, with claps and cheers from the mums and dads waiting, while waiting for my kids, I watched as he went over the car (a 1996 Vw polo) with a fine toothed comb, then handed her (with a big smile) the fine and points, and gave her a right telling off for her using a mobile and what made it worse is that she was in a school zone and he could reported her for driving without due care because she did not have full control over her vehicle whilst trying to put her belt on and talk on the phone at the same time and said he would have if it not been her first offence, but because it is her first offence, take the points and fine as a warning.
one of those moments where, a copper was there at the right time. not just that the police station was round the corner from the school, everyone knows that police are always about round that street.0 -

Do you just make these offences up as you go along?0
