    :rotfl::rotfl:

    good job you remeasured, you would have looked a bit silly buying a 1000 mm drill bit when a 400 mm bit will do :D

    Replace a damaged brick and it will need drilling again.
    Not if the cable is set in the mortar.

    Thats one ell of a big hole ! Do you mean 1000 mm long? What diameter?

    I had this vision of an oil drum sized drill bit at the end of the OP's drill!

    Glad it wasn't just me.

    Well , let`s just say i measured yesterday morning , pretty early after 7 pints of Bishops finger the night before
    Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

    One question , what mm drill bit for the power cable to the light ?
    I can see plenty of 16mm 400mm drill bits , but the cable covers are 8mm....any ideas?

    Install many lights, all on individual cables! Fill the hole with power cables and illuminate your whole estate - think Checkpoint Charlie....

    Or fill hole outside with mastic when done.

    You can get thinner drill bits (I have a 10, 12, 16, 20 set from Aldi, but that's 'cos I'm a cheapskate) but they are more fragile and wobble. A big tool will suit, just ask Mrs D.

    Does she like a Bishop's finger of an evening too?

    Bishop's Finger is very nice but not conducive to DIY, even a bit of measuring :beer:

    This is why all these tradesmen say measure twice (at least one of those times should be while sober...)
