I think you have your doubters.... ;)

I am looking forward to your next thread when you decide to get cavity wall insulation and it takes them 3 months to fill the cavity.

If there is a huge cavity it may be very tricky threading the cable through and getting it to come out the other side without the end dropping down into the cavity..

Once drill is through, detach bit from drill, secure cable to drill bit with tape, pull drill bit out, taking cable with it, surely?

Silly thought ....can you drill inside out? So you dont need a ladder?
When ive had to, I put a shorter bit in first then the 1000mm bit is already half way through.

And as said above...detatc bit whilst still in the wall and draw cable through using the drill bit

Drilling from inside would be easier and safer. If you have access from the loft would threading the cable to the outside from under the eaves be an option.

800 mm is 31 inches in old money and the only walls that you see that wide are solid stone walls or very old construction

when was your house built ?

from previous post it is a brick faced house so a four inch brick a four inch cavity and a four inch brick, falls well short of your 800mm

if it is brick and block construction it would be unusual but not impossible to have a nine inch block on the inside but a four inch brick and a nine inch block would still need a twenty inch cavity to make up the width that you are talking about

when we have to drill a wall a 400 mm is the norm but sometimes i do have to use a 600 mm drill bit

SDS is the best type of drill for long masonry bits and is po as probably why you can only find SDS bits

I have two cordless SDS and one corded SDS drills and if working on a ladder i use a cordless purely for convenience and most times i will use the cordless inside as well

we are always told to drill in to out dont know why but that is how i was taught and that is normally the way i drill a wall

If he needs a ladder to drill the hole, he'll still need one to put the light up even if he drills from inside.

I was about to mention the idea of standing at the top of a ladder with a drill with a 1m drill bit on it possibly not being the safest idea but was beaten to it.

An 80 cm thick wall is enormous, are you sure there isn't a hidden room in there somewhere or do you live in a medieval castle??? ;)

If there is a huge cavity it may be very tricky threading the cable through and getting it to come out the other side without the end dropping down into the cavity.

There must be an easier way of doing this....
The cheap way to guide cables through walls is something like a bamboo cane (usually something like 5 or 10 for a pound), or if you've had to do it a few times a cable access kit (fibre glass rods with hooks etc) can be had for about a tenner from memory if you look round.

I bought one when I saw it in Screwfix for about £30 years ago, having needed something similar many times in the past (including about 3 months earlier when doing network cabling all over the house and having cursed repeatedly), sods law in the past 5 years or so since getting it, I've not needed it ;)

Is there a window on this wall?

Must be one hell of a reveal if there is.
