I switched my mother`s supplier from Co-operative Energy to Green Star Energy on 6 June 2014 (date switch came into effect). I informed Co-op that she wanted a refund by cheque on 29 May 2014. Co-op were aware that she had switched as they phoned to ask why. She received an estimated final bill on 1 July, which I queried as it was too high. They then amended it with the correct reading I supplied to Green Star. She received a final bill, dated 1 July, stating `We will refund your final balance within the next 21 days.` I contacted them again this week as no cheque had arrived. Had an email this morning to say that `your refund has not been automatically requested, this means that I will have to request it manually for you. Before I do this please can I advise you that this can take 30 days or more to complete.` Payment direct into a bank account will take 21 days. I have today complained as it will be three months before she receives a refund. I have had to ask for same on four occasions now. I think this is disgusting as my Mum is elderly and in poor health.0

I read this on MSE and checked. SSE owed me £50. they owed me £50 from an account I closed over two years ago!
I wrote them a letter to their complaints department asking for the £50 back plus interest.
I posted this yesterday. Today the refund hit my account with 6% interest added for two years. Quick turnaround - thanks MSE!0 -
My elderly mother switched from Scottish Power to EDF in June 2014
After several phone calls, which almost always mean waiting for 20 mins to get through ( the option for a call back only seems to work at certain times of the day) she has still not received a refund.
When I started chasing it in September I was told that they owed her £185, however this week I was told that she was only owed £95 as they were using the credit to pay for the electricity they were supplying to her. I had cancelled the direct debit in June. I contacted EDF to check that the transfer had taken place and they confirmed that the national grid shows that Scottish Power ceased supplying on the 9 th July. Despite raising 3 complaints and a phone call to the chief exec ( phone number on google!!) I am no further forward. Every person I have spoken to apologises and says that the previous person made a mistake ( I must be on my tenth person ).
Don't use Scottish Power!!!0 -
Thanks to MSE, I checked in September 2014 after switching from Coop Energy in May and found extra DD taken in June, plus account was already in credit. £101 returned to me within 7 days of calling them - but am pretty sure it would never have happened without asking.0

I switched via the energy club from Scottish Power to Co-Operative energy around mid December, I am now paying the Co-Op via direct debit but I'm still waiting for a credit of £521. which was overpaid into my account. The account is shown as closed and I have saved a copy of the account to show the credit. After several e-mails and no response I think the next stage is a long wait on the end of a telephone line.
I am in the same situation with SP to Co-op. Co op started supplying me on 23 September. I am over £1000 in credit with Scottish Power and have been promised 3 times by advisors that the credit would be sent to my bank. One advisor said the Co-op had not sent them my readings even though they quoted me the readings I sent to the co op on a previous phone call. I called the co op and was told I had not ticked a box when I sent the readings to them. I actually sent the email in an email reply when they asked me for them and got a reply back from them saying they had entered the readings into my account. It would seem that none of these energy companies can organise a drinks party in a brewery as long as the situation is in their favour.

Took First utility several months to give me an up to date bill. Having moved house in mid September I am owed over £500. Phone calls take in excess of 20 minutes to get through and usually I give up in exasperation. I have spoken on the phone, emailed and am still waiting. what a rubbish company!0

Wish I was aware of this MSE help before - it took me six months, seven phone calls, three emails and a letter to the CEO to get my £300+ credit back from nPower. Then my direct debit was unilaterally increased, despite the original amount clearly being more than enough.0

Account closed with NPower. £275.30 in credit after final readings sent to new providor. Continuing bills from NPower. Last one for 41p! Veiled threats about the consequences of cancelling my direct debit (cancelled once switch under way). Threats of 'affecting my credit history'. Waiting for legitimate refund. A very troubled energy business. Avoid!0

Hi! I have recently complained to npower about it's shocking service! I was sent a letter in May asking me to fill in a form as I may be due compensation due to being mis sold energy. I returned the form straight away and expected a reply in 28 days as stated in the letter, 5 months later still no response. So I contact them to see what the situation is only to be told I'm not entitled to anything and to ignore the letter but by the way you are in credit on your old closed account by £58 (which was closed 2 years ago!) So I complained and asked why I was not refunded or contacted about this money, to which they responded with they didn't have my first name and here's £25 goodwill gesture??! I said this is not good enough I'll be taking it further...Npower now want me to tell them a counter offer, has anybody any idea what would be a fair offer?0

You have already been offered far more than is fair. Why did you not bother to check when you switched?0
