Thanks Tilly, I'm hoping we'll be like a modern version of the chimney sweep & bring them luck - DS permanently looks as if he's been up a chimney after leaping around in parks & puddles so we're half way there :rotfl:Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -

DS has been desperate to go to "a real wedding with a real bride in a big white dress" so our vicar suggested we go to the one at church this afternoon. We are armed with confetti & the Kindle in case DS needs distracting. Goodness knows what this poor couple starting their life together are going to think of these two random mad people skulking at the back :rotfl:
.Oooohhhhh, those were the days :rotfl:.
Hope DS enjoys it.

Where I grew up we often sat at the back of churches during weddings. It was customary for the bridegroom and bride's father to chuck handfuls of coins out of the cars as they drove away - known as a scramble

Hope DS enjoys it.
Ooh we need to reinstate that fine tradition gg, we should perhaps re-name it the Mortgage Free Wanabee Scramble :T:rotfl:Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
By way of update, DS was too tired to sit through the wedding service (I could forsee a scene if he had a meltdown and I had to remove him squawking just as the happy couple were saying "I do"
) so we went down just at the end and sat outside in the sunshine and watched the bride come out, which was lovely. I find the sound of church bells so inspiring
Then I took him for chocolate cake and we collected the slide. DD nearly passed out when she saw it and they spent the rest of the day sliding into each others arms which was very sweet. In the midst of this I outbid several yummy mummies on eBay to secure a Balamory jigsaw for DD who is enchanted with all things from that island. Am hoping she looks after it so I can sell it on later and pay a months mortgage off with the proceeds - the price Balamory merchandise goes for on eBay is shocking, I reckon it has a higher street value than several illegal substances :rotfl:. In fact if anyone has any Balamory merchandise hanging around in their lofts, PM me and name your price :money:
Nice to be back on here, will try to find time to update more regularlyLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Morning all,
Placed an order for M&S uniform for DS, even with 20% off it came to £120  In previous years I've managed to pick up the odd sweatshirt in Asda/Sainsys etc for a fraction of the price but recently there's been nothing in our local stores in his size/school colours. Had the brainwave to look on Asda Direct & managed to order the lot inc sports kit for £40.50 :money: Hope it fits when I collect it, he is very slim & like many nearly 7 year old boys doesn't really have a bum, so the trousers could be a challenge
I got two fleece onesies in M&S reduced £20 to £10 (giraffe) & £8 (bunny), will put those away for DS birthday at end of next month, he's still a baby really so he'll love them. Also got him a talking Jessie from Toy Story, he's been nagging for one for months, OH & I have done the customary "£35 for plastic rubbish" moanbut he'll be so excited. His Grandma is going to get the Woody too so his cup will be runnething over
I've spent a bit on a few new clothes for me too, nothing extravagant, just some half price Clarks sandals & a couple of £10 TU tops. All pink strangely, don't know what's going on there, am going to look like Elmo Putney's Wine Bar if anyone's old enough to remember Brush Strokes
Best friend pointed me in the direction of a good website for printer cartridges, I got some recycled ones BOGOHP, they were here in less than 24 hours from ordering. I fitted them yesterday and the printer had a nervous breakdown, kept saying "These are not branded cartridges, these are not branded cartridges" on the screen in what imagine would be a shrill voice if it could actually speak :rotfl:
NSD today & tomorrow as we are in the house trying to make it a bit less of a bomb site & Calpolling DD as she's now full of cold :eek:Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Hi RT, I'm enjoying reading your updates
I love the idea of sitting in the sun watching the wedding party come out of the church, I might pinch that idea for my little ones as they've never been to a wedding, the last one we went to was 5 years ago! It sounds like you and ds had a lovely time together
Well done on getting your Ds his school uniform at a bargain price too! I've yet to venture into the school shop to get dd1 the rest of her uniform, I can pay £3 for a 10% discount card, I'll definitely get my money back
It sounds like you have got some other bargains too:T I got Ds a monster onesie in the m&s sale that I've put away for Christmas. I don't know if this is any use to you but scholastic have their £1 book sale on at the moment http://sale.scholastic.co.uk/

I think I know the monster onesie you mean Crumpets, is it teal? It didn't go up to 7-8 which is what my baby boy is sadly or I'd have whipped in!
Thanks for the book link, looks fab :T
More on the uniform in incoming updateLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Just a quick update from me tonight, the Asda uniform has arrived & has been measured up against the M&S for size & looks identical :money:. Will try it on DS when I can get him to keep still for 5 mins, but am hopeful I'm onto a winner :T
Our broadband digibox router gateway thingy died a death last night, I phoned Plusnet who said they'd send me another one for just the cost of P&P if agreed to stay with them for another year. I agreed as I haven't got time to sort out alternatives (that's a task for when DD goes to nursery - sort out landline/broadband/TV etc package) & I only pay £7.49 per month. Then the chap said as I am on such an old deal there was no way for him to re-contract me, it would be goodwill if I stayed! So may price all that up sooner rather than later.
I got confirmation that my mortgage protection cancellation had gone through, so checked my online account for the new figure (as Skipton put 1 yrs premiums on at start of year, they tick off monthly, though are not interest bearing.) The figure looked higher than I thought & I was a bit despondent, so I rang them for clarity. I'd forgotten they do the same with my household insurance! Plus I'd forgotten they don't credit mortgage payments till 12th of the month (even though the interest is reduced from the 1st, & they only claim the money on 6th) I went through it with them & turns out we owe £16 less than I thought :j. Have updated sig & as it was too many lines I've amended it with my general aimLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
