Just a quick update, am  as I drafted a long post on the laptop earlier then lost it  . When we got the new router I realised the connections don't work properly so we've had to go wireless & the laptop is ancient & was one of the first to have wifi capability. To be honest I don't think it ever expected to actually have to function wirelessly & now it's being asked to do so it's having a breakdown :rotfl:
DD's chicken pox has not resulted in NSDs as I've been utilising the benefits of the iPhone to do Internet shopping whilst stuck at home! All budgeted for though as been buying stuff for DS' birthday end if next month, & odd bit for DD 5 weeks to the day later. So far we have amongst other things en route George's Marvellous Medicine, Lift The Flap Spot's birthday book & the complete King Rollo on DVD [STRIKE]which is for the kids & not a nostalgia trip for me & OH, honest[/STRIKE]
Been hankering after garden furniture again but everywhere has sold out argh! I didn't trust this summer but it seems to be hanging around. Might head to Wilko et al for some really cheap stuff to put us on...
Made a bit on eBay though again it's surprising what sells & what sticks - all the kids summer clothes are hanging around (maybe other people don't trust it like me!) but I sold a winter coat & hat & mittens! Had to smile when I got the buyers addresses - they were in Shetland & Wick
Bye for nowLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
King rollo! That is a trip down memory lane
love it! How's dd doing now? I hope she's on the mend, at least she got it now and not when you're on your holiday.
It does seem that summer is hanging around so you should definitely take the plunge and get some furniture, have you checked eBay/ fb/ gum tree for any? It's a shame you're not closer as I have an old wooden set hanging around.
Well done on eBay! I have a few winter things to list but I wouldn't have thought about listing them yet! I suppose if you're in Shetland winter probably isn't that far away :rotfl: That's somewhere I've always fancied going actually but I don't think dh is that keen.

Hi Crumpets, DD is much better now thanks. I used to live in NE Scotland (I get about don't I, what with that & Penzance
) & it is lovely but not often tropical it has to be said
Updates on garden furniture to come shortly, hint: I'm typing this sat on the patio :rotfl:Life is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
Hello,
Well a few bits to report from here - firstly I took the plunge & bought garden furniture. Am sat on it now! I don't really like it to be honest, it's sort of grey with luminous green seats/parasol . Everywhere, literally everywhere, had sold out except B&Q who had reduced this 6 piece set to £67. I kept saying that the minute I bought it I'd jinx the summer: bought it last night, this morning on the supposed hottest day of the year we got up to black clouds & rain . Luckily it cleared up! It is lovely to sit out even if the colour is a bit fierce
Went to Asda today & saw a miniature set in primary colours for the kids, reduced to £20. Thought it might be good for when SIL & her little DS come over from Sydney, I asked & they said that it was the last one they had, they couldn't sell it to me until after the weekend but if I came back at 8am on Mon I could have it for a tenner! I thought I'd slipped into a parallel universe for a mo as it seemed so bizarre, but they've taken all my details so I'm hoping it'll still be there :rotfl:
I've got ridiculously into the holiday/summer/picnic spirit & ordered a picnic rug from M&S & some plastic ice-cream sundae glasses. Don't know what's got into me, am blaming the heat
Also got a copy of Julia Donaldson's new book The Scarecrow's Wedding for £6 in Asda, it only came out yesterday & is around £13 even on Amazon et al, so very pleased with that :money: & it'll be perfect for DS' birthday, he has all the others. I have some shoes that need to be returned to Clarks by Mon or else will have to be kept, they were half price [STRIKE] & I know they'll be comfortable as I already have them in pink[/STRIKE] but they are nude which is a strange colour to wear I find. Think I might have to start channelling Kate Middleton
Hope the sun remains for us all this weekend xxLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -
:T yay to getting garden furniture :T £67 sounds like a bargain to me, I'm sure you'll soon learn to love the luminous green:rotfl: if you have weather similar to us, it won't be getting much use today though. When I first got my garden funiture last year I didn't much like it so I covered the table with an oilcloth table cloth and it looks much nicer now
I hope you manage to get the miniature set for £10, what a great deal that would be.
Thanks for the Julia donaldson tip, I didn't know there was a new book out, we have all the other books so that will be good to get for a Christmas present.
Enjoy your weekend

I've got family links to NE Scotland. My great grandmother was from the Moray Firth area.. She was down in London by the time she was 20, working as a teacher, and as far as I know, stayed south for the rest of her life.
I agree about the randomness of what sells on eBay and what doesn't.
I've been selling some clothes for my friend on eBay, and most things sell first time, at a good price. But there's 3 items, that have now been listed 3 times and people just aren't interested. I don't know why, they are very nice clothes, but they are sticking.
Have a nice weekend with the new garden furniture, you should get some use out of them over the next week or soEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Well we're 1.5 hours into the six week holidays & I'm already

Thanks Crumpets & Goldiegirl, after a shaky start we've been getting lots of use out of the garden furniture - like right now! The kids set was a saga - I turned up this morning to collect it as agreed but as I predicted as we were driving there the staff on this morning had no idea of the arrangement, couldn't find it & said they thought it had probably been sold to someone else over the weekend . I wasn't very happy needless to say, but left the store [STRIKE]in a sulk [/STRIKE]& went home. An hour later they rang me to said they'd found it with my name sellotaped to it in a corner of the warehouse
. Went back to get it & it's brill, sweet little white table with four small chairs in primary colours & a bright red parasol. Brought it home triumphantly & the kids completely ignored it
. But I forgot I had a £4 Asda refund card so it came to the grand total of £6! The woman on the till did a double take when the manager authorised the over-ride :money:
Whilst we were in there this morning we saw the Little Tikes playhouse for £89 & having discussed it today have decided it would make a good joint birthday pressie for them from a family member, so OH has gone back for one now. Birthdays are between 6-11 weeks away but to be honest they have everything else & if this summer is going to stay <does backwards rain dance> we reckon they'll get a lot out if it. Since the gardener has sorted the outside space & the weather has picked up it really feels like we've got another room :T
At the risk of sounding like the founder member of The Asda Appreciation SocietyI also hit a winner with the uniform, so it's cost £40 instead of £124 :money:. And I also got a Rex from Toy Story duvet set for £7 & a Peppa Pig Fun Phonics for £10 in their sale, oh & a picnic rug for £6, better than the £20 M&S one that I ordered. I think I might just pitch a tent in the Asda warehouse & wait for the next delivery [STRIKE] Now I come to think about it I could probably get a very good tent in Asda[/STRIKE] :rotfl:
Only other major purchase is the Balamory Enchanted Island on eBay for DD's birthday. It cost just under £50 which isn't cheap I know, but they're like gold dust & this one has two Edie McCreedie's & three Suzy Sweets (Crumpets will know what I'm on about!) It was the extra figures that attracted me, I want to avoid a meltdown if Miss Hoolie goes missing down the back of the sofa
Hope everyone is managing to catch a bit of sunLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0
