  • Morning all :)

Off to the east coast tomorrow to see my Gran so more petrol to buy - wish we could fill up in Cornwall, it's always cheaper down there! We're staying with her though so no accommodation costs. I forgot to mention in previous posts that whilst in aforementioned Kernow I bought a stack of birthday & Christmas presents - some St Eval candles for my best friend, and some South Crofty jewellery that I know she'll love for her birthday on Jan 1st. I also bought both my parents 60th gifts for this Dec & next Feb, so am feeling super organised :T

Have got £15 left in DS' birthday fund & am debating between a toy Zurg or a Woody costume (can you see the Toy Story theme this year?!) Might make cheeky offers on eBay & see who bites first :D

Day of ironing, packing & organising ahead for me :o

Have a good week all :)

The Camomile Lawn is one of those books I've books I've always wanted to read, but have never quite got round to it. It's currently £4.99 on Kindle, which is more than I normally pay for a Kindle book. But I've but it on my 'to read' list, and it if goes down, I'll probably buy.

Have you read any books by Rosamunde Pilcher? I would think she's in the same genre as Mary Wesley

Anyway, have a nice time in Yorkshire, hope it's not too bracing!

Enjoy the beach again you lucky thing! 'The Camomille Lawn' sounds like my kind of book, I'm going to hunt it out next time I'm at the library. Thanks for the tip, I need a new book as I'm currently reding Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for the third time :o

    Safe journey

  • Deffo get The Camomile Lawn you two! It's one of those you can often pick up in a charity shop for 99p. Just checked & it's £1.46 on Play.com secondhand inc P&P :money: It's about five young cousins holidaying with family in Cornwall just as WW2 breaks out, & their lives through the war, in London & around the world, right up to the early eighties. They made a TV adaptation of it in 1992 (which was dubbed The Camomile !!!!!!, but ignore that, there was just a bit of nudity in it :rotfl:) & it was filmed in Cornwall. I went to the house where it was filmed once & met the owners who were involved at the time & they showed me their scrapbooks of Paul Eddington, Felicity Kendal, Claire Bloom, Virginia McKenna etc filming it. It was like a dream come true for me!

Anyway, back to the here & now! We're back from the east coast having had a fab time. Decent weather, grand fish & chips & a lovely chance to catch up with family. Not too costly either, half a tank of petrol & that's about it as family treated us bless them. We've decided we'll try to get over at least yearly now, perhaps more, it'll be a nice break & much easier now DD isn't a little baby anymore.

Figures aren't looking too bad, think we'll be ok for SIL's visit, then we'll reassess going forward. Got DS a bargainous Bullseye from eBay & currently negotiating over a Hamm. The things you find yourself doing as a parent :D. N.B. these are gifts from family who've asked me to buy on their behalf, DS isn't being spoiled rotten by us!

I've been completely cream crackered today, think all the organising/packing/re-packing, Cornish/Yorkshire sea air & pushing DD up & down cliffs in her buggy has caught up with me :o. Think I'll crash out now & hope to be more effective tomorrow!

    Night all xx

The book sounds great, I love a good WW2 story :) how lovely that your family treated you, sounds like you had a nice break. It must be lovely to have relatives by the sea :-) I'm really feeling the urge to get to the coast, I love going in the autumn, wrapping up warm for a walk on the beach then back for a warm drink and a sit by the fire...bliss

Have you got much planned for when sil comes to visit? Is she staying with you?

    Hope you've recovered now :D

  • To be honest Crumpets we live fairly near to the sea on the opposite coast - about 6 mins on the train, & we're about 12 mins walk from the station (it takes an hour by road!) We need to get there more often really, the whole area has been gentrified & it's really nice now. Every time we go we say "why don't we do this more often?" :p

Lots of plans for SIL visit although her & her DS both have come down with colds apparently which is going to make for a rough flight, & then we're all bound to catch it from them argh ! Next week, illness permitting, we're going to Hants to see OH & SIL's family. Really looking forward to that, although it won't be cheap :o. Other than that little days out here & there & just catching up really.

Yesterday we noticed a big pool of water on the bathroom floor. Just put it down to DS doing a seal impression when washing his hands :D but it happened twice more. We had a good look & can't see the origin of a leak, DS says it is him & will be more careful in future! We discussed it & decided if it is a leak & isn't easily fixable/is going to cost money then we'll pull some money out of the mortgage & re-do the bathroom, inc pulling out the airing cuboard, replacing the boiler & putting a downstairs loo in the playroom. That will all be costly obviously but it needs doing, the bathroom is 33 years old, although actually other than it being a revolting beige colour you wouldn't know, it's worn incredibly well. If we pull the airing cupboard out we can get a double shower, corner bath, loo & double sink in there (as long as the bathroom breathes in :D) The boiler is around 15 years old, & isn't a very efficient one, the idea is to section the back of the playroom off which contains the boiler & put a downstairs loo in it, our neighbours have done it & it works well. I'll love to put a shower in there too but not sure there's enough room. Everything has a knock-on effect though doesn't it, if we put a loo in the playroom we'll need to buy an external bike store as the bikes have been parked in there! We've been planning to do all this at some point for all the years we've been in the house (9 to be precise) but so far no water on the floor today, think it must have been DS. Am almost disappointed :rotfl:

NSD day today as am staying in :money:
