Do you never feel uncomfortable though? I imagine it would be really uncomfortable and we would both end up sat in silence! lol.

Although to be perfectly honest I don't even think I would bother with one personally. I think it would be better for me to focus with getting on wit my life rather than dwelling on the past.

    Hi dawnylou!:hello:
I've come back to you again angel with more thoughts after seeing your other posts.

It can be a while on a waiting list before you get counselling. It depends on the area you're in and on how severely your dr thinks you need support now. Then you can jump the list as it were.

Yes, it is awkward at first. You have to go with an open mind and be completely honest with them hun or the counselling won't help much. You'll build a relationship of trust with them and open up to them more and more. Sometimes angel, silences can say an awful lot.;)
You'd be amazed that so many people felt like you do, only then to start counselling and not be able to shut up.

A lot of us thought we'd never be able to talk to a counsellor about our most secret thoughts and situations, but have found it to be a fantastic experience. They don't judge you in any way either.
Like anything else, there are good and bad ones, so if you're unhappy with the one you've got, ask to be referred to another. It is all confidential.

Yes, it's good to look forward hun I agree.
But you also have to give your past issues some respect and lay them to rest as it were. Sometimes, imho, people say they look forward because the past is too painful to deal with.
A good counsellor will guide you hun. You don't want to be striding towards the future with the past holding you back.

And because you have asked about counselling hun, something must have wondered if that was an option for you. It can't hurt to ask angel and you've got nothing to lose by trying it!;) Think it over.hug.gif

    Guess who dawnylou?!;)
    quote=dawnylou
I don't mean to sound rude in any way but if you were going to take a friend anyway couldn't you save some money and just talk to your friend?
No. You don't have to take anyone with you but you can if you want to.
A friend would not have the psychology training that a cousellor does. They tend to have a much better insight into people's problems because they're experienced. They have to go to college for training.
A friend can support you, care for you, advise you, listen to you but they probably won't know the techniques a counsellor is trained in, to help you move forward.
Besides angel, counselling is available for free via your gp.
Counselling isn't about judging hun. It's one reason you might want to consider a counsellor instead of a friend.

I don't really want to be wasting my, or their, time.
I picked up on this sentence hun because it seems that part of you does want to go and try counselling but there's another part that thinks it will make you vulnerable or that you should be able to cope on your own.
All I can say hun, is that you'll just have to listen to your heart and make the decision then.

Thank you - I am merely visiting. :)
I do not suffer from depression and so I am not sure I belong here.
I just have problems with my emotions. However I felt that maybe someone here may understand I guess.
It's not just depression that's covered by this thread angel. All kinds of mental health issues are relevant. I think a lot of us can relate to what you're saying hun.;)
I think that a counsellor might help you explore ways to manage your emotions, imho, angel.

Isn't depression something that is caused by painful pasts, bad things that happened previously etc?
What do you mean thought and habits? Like OCD?
Nope - that ain't necessarily so dawnylou. There are different kinds of depression caused by different things. There can be other psychological issues as well as mental ill health.

Everyone please excuse my ignorance :o
No need for that angel. You're asking honest questions.;)

A councellor is just not for me.
I had problems in the past that, I feel, cause me huge problems dealing with any emotions, expressing love and generally getting on with my life.
I just want to get on with things - why is it so difficult?/quote
Dawnylou, maybe you just answered your own question angel. You don't need a counsellor but you find it difficult to move on from your issues you've said. Maybe the issue is that you feel embarrassed or awkward about having counselling? It can seem very daunting.

Don't be too hard on yourself hun - it's okay to explore all avenues. And if it helps, it's worth it. Why not have a friendly chat with your gp sweetheart and see if this is the first stpe towards your future? They'll have heard it all before.;)
    Take care hun.hug.gif

If I DID go I don't think I would want anyone to go with me really. It's about time I stopped feeling like I needed to have someone hold my hand constantly. Besides I guess I wouldn't want anyone there to hear, or judge.

ok,I am sorry I mentioned to take a friend for support,You are right though, you could just chat to your friend instead.

Everyone else I feel like crying now,I only gave what I thought was the right advice to her and now shes gone,Is it my fault shes now gone? :( Next time I wont give advice unless I can really give it then I wont be so upset.

    a very sad Katie

    Hi katie!:hello:
    How are you sweetheart?

You've said nothing wrong angel. I guess the person had to go or they felt they had enough information already.
    I think you're being a little over-sensitive angel - honestly, I can't see a problem with what you posted.;)
Now any more of this and I'll send for sazzy and her wet fish slap!:D ;)
