Because if you blag everything for free, the artists will have no means of supporting themselves (other than by getting a 'real job' and making music in their spare time), and your supply of decent free music will dry up.
I'm just back from a concert trip to London. I paid for band's album (and all the previous ones) bought a T-shirt (and did so at previous concerts) and paid for my concert ticket this time, as well as on previous occasions).
If I and enough others hadn't paid for the first two, the band wouldn't have been able to run the European Tour, and I wouldn't have had the chance to buy the ticket for the concert, never mind attend it .....0 -

sometimes I wonder in these times of austerity whether they should have to do it in their spare time? Would that be too much to ask? They could still tour and stuff but they would have to run it like a business, sell the tickets in advance and make sure theres enough tickets sold to pay for the venue/time off work etc.0 -

You make it sound like they're not 'running it as a business' at the moment.
What you describe is exactly what they did, so I'm not sure what you're suggesting, other than they get a 'real job' when they're not writing, recording, rehearsing or playing live.0 -
then it's OK for me to steal my luxuries ....0

Do you have any projects that you do in your spare time? Are you well known for it and can you make a living out of it? Can you run your own business while working for someone else?
None of this is easy, even for local gigs, people say "Sure you're only playing for a few hours", but what about the set up and rehearsals to make sure the performance is good?
Flip it around, an electrician comes and does a job for you, it takes them an hour and a half to do and then says it'll cost you £150 (as an example).
You're argument is it only took an hour and half, why so expensive? He replies with, well I had to drive here so it will cover my fuel costs, i've also got over x amount of years experience, I had to use my own tools and my own equipment to fix it, these cost me money.
Why can't musicians do the same?0 -

Audiogalaxy was my favourite before it capitulated to the music industry.
I really wish the music industry and those who choose to work in it, would stop perpetuating the myth that they're hard-done-by. They're not.
When you have Adele moaning about paying a £4m tax-bill and Sting who had £6m stolen by an accountant....and he didn't even notice, (I lose 6 quid and it's a calamity), I have no sympathy and give short-shrift to those who plead poverty at every opportunity.100% debt free

That's what I was thinking.
The live part is the most profitable part of the industry, and has been for some time.

Use Youtube or Spotify, as it means the artist gets paid, but I hate people stealing income for myself and my artists
