I feel like NSK is trying to teach us to be self-sufficient with the April challenge. Its like have the stabilisers taken off on your first bike, and if we succeed then we will be ok to get a big bike (when she leaves for travelling).
You've seen right through me!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -

Do you think between us we'll be able to carry on the NSK tradition in her absence? I think so many of us have been helped by these challenges, and there's such a sense of belonging, that between us we can keep Kat's dream alive! Maybe something along the lines of one month one person takes over the running of the thread and passes the baton to another one of us the following month to run it. It's a fairly self-sufficient thread and, quite frankly, I won't feel ready to leave!0 -

I love this idea!!! I would definitely be up for taking it in turns to set the challenge. I have about another 21 months to go on my journey so would love to have all of your company and support.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Congratulations Shyspender - well done on your debt freedom.
Had a lovely mother's day. OH and boys have spoiled me thoroughly and despite having a horrid head cold I have had a lovely time. Have planned my April goals.0 -
Evening All,
Congratulations shyspender!!!! Big pats on the back x
Half marathon completed and that's the best I can say about it!! I started really well, not going too fast and after I hit 5 miles, was feeling really pleased with myself, then disaster! I could see the 6 mile sign in the distance, then felt a pop in my right knee followed by horrible painI immediately stopped running, tried some stretches then carried on walking but it just got worse, then after about half a mile my knee locked completely so I ended up hobbling the rest of the course. Tbh, if it wasn't for the sponsorship I had, I would have probably headed straight for a steward and given up. It ended up taking me 3.14 hours and I was fourth from last! The humiliation!!! Although, looking on the bright side, I didn't have to queue to get out the car park!!
Have spent the afternoon on the sofa following the rest, ice, compression and elevation rule so am hoping it gets better very quickly as I'm on an early at work tomorrow! I did manage to hobble to the local greasy spoon when I got home (the advantage of living on a high street!) and put away every morsel on a monster breakfast so no SFD today. I was hoping to go over my target by a few days but will settle for 1 as tmrw will be an SFD day.
Targets haven't changed but I'll put them up anyway.
15/15 SFD's
£102.29/£100 groceries incl cat food
17/18 LTW
£20/£40 petrol
30/30 donations/declutter
Off now to find next months challenge! Have a lovely evening all xxxDebt as at Feb 14: £2272.40DFW Nerd no. 1024June Overhaul #260 -
Oh god, I am so sorry shyspender. I don't know how that didn't register in my head.
Congratulations shyspender!!!!!!

Still trying to figure out my rules for April.
Today has failed as a spend-free day. My brother decided we should buy everyone a chinese for mother's day so I had to take £20 out of our holiday pot for it.
So still on 19... thank goodness for tomorrow to save my month.
:undecided
Ooooooooooh, well done on the running siannielaz. You have done brilliantly. Lesser people would have given up. You have reminded me of the guy in the diving suit (think he did the london marathon one year). It's not the length of time it takes or whether you are first or last, it's the fact that you achieved your goal and have helped others in the process.
Keep plodding on torties.
