Pretty sure it's 1 point for every £4 you spend outside of Tesco, so if you're going to a Tesco dentist you would get 1000 but a non-Tesco one you would get 250.

Thankyou Moomin! According to my calculations, the infamous £1130 golden crown will bag me about £2.82 in clubcard vouchers lol :rotfl:Every little helps! :D

    Hullo folks

So another spend day today but only on pumpkin seeds that I found reduced in Waitro$e.. £1.38 for 300g was a good bargain if I may say so myself :T

I have been keeping a beady eye out for freebies for a little while now and the Waitro$e coffee machine has become a regular haunt of mine. Martin Lewis would be proud of my money saving skills because by the end of the week I will have bagged a number of Waitro$e lattes, a zero coke at a local newsagents, a glass of wine at a pub chain, Burger King fries and a coffee n cake at John's.. I could do with the calories ;)

I dont know about you good peoples and whether you have had similar thoughts but I have recently started to feel guilty about the freebies :o I have started buying items at Waitro$e whenever I get a free drink (all reduced though, mind.. and needed!). I think the whole drinks machine is a ploy to get you addicted to caffeine so youll keep coming back for more ;) you end up buying something 'while youre there' either from spotting bloomin good bargains (conveniently distributed near the drinks machine) or from having a guilty conscience! :rotfl:

I found myself feeling awkward going into a shop asking for a free coke with my voucher yesterday which is crazy since the shop will be reimbursed with the cost!

While queuing up for my free BK fries today I started thinking about people who couldnt afford to eat and would be grateful for a small bag of chips or a coke to keep them going for a while :( It crossed my mind what if I had to rely on penniless means of obtaining food every day? Then I had a revelation and truly realised how lucky I am to have a good job (even though I whinge and moan!) and good health, providing I dont eat too much free cake, coke, wine and fries :p.. I am grateful for what I have.

So the weekend is upon us and tomorrow I am going to look for home insurance as it is up for renewal. Once I find the right cover I am going to pay for it outrightly this time, like I do with my car insurance, instead of having it directly debited from my account each month. I want to keep SO's and DD's simple and to a minimum and free up that little bit each month..

I hope you are all keeping ok out there, gonna catch up with your posts..

    Bye bye gang

    Evening Torties....

    Where on earth is everybody?

I am sat on my sofa watching "Famous, Rich and Hungry". Total respect for blondie off the Made in Chelsea programme (heir to the McVities fortune). Always thought he was a bit of a tit but total respect to him for getting involved. Ot sure what good it will do though albeit spreading the word of hardship experianced by people to the "yoof" of today who might otherwise ignore it.

My heating is on, I have untoasted seaweed wraps with avocado and alfalfa sprouts (posh cow) and there are these families sodesperate that they steal. The government has to do something right?? Wonder if the woman (another blondie) pokes her Brother The Mayor to sort this ridiculousness out.

And don't get me started on PAY DAY LOANs. Also wonder what Theo Paph-Whats-His-Face does now? He has a lot of influence I am sure and I wonder what he can do since he was so disgusted with the payday loan APR which was 15000%...??

    Grrr!

Anyway on another note.. I kinda didn't go into work today. Spent the morning with my friend and her baby boy ( Come on Thrifty ) and then brought my sorry bum home to sit on it and research - although I should have been reading my study notes for this finance course I got distracte by putting a MacBook Air into the basket again on the Apple website and NOT PUSHING THE PURCHASE BUTTON...

Anyway.... work becons me on Saturday night for which I am eternally grateful as will be the following Saturday night. Thats a whopping 5 shifts this month and I am hoping this continues into April.

So there seems to be a lack of folk on here tonight? I think things are getting hard right? I am definitely down to my last pennies with Mumsy wanting to send me something - I told her NO WAY cause I am squirrelling money away and can easily break into that if I need to. Can't have pennypinching ( albeit lovely Mumsy ) sending me money now can we....

Right... I am off to shower and bed. Am super tired today after doing nothing...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Evening all,

You're right NSK, very quiet on here today.

Today was a SFD :) but have to spend on park tomo as have an optician appt in town. Will take my last birthday vouchers with me and hopefully can use them to buy the birthday present I need to get for someone.

I am also worried that I nay not be able to pay off my ccard this month as planned. We are having some work done to the house (although we are not paying, long story) but an unexpected cost has come in and I may need to pay for it :( I was hoping to pay off the last £400 on my ccard this month and then I just have my loan left until debt freedom. Although my loan is my biggest debt, it is at a low interest rate and I will overpay it each month to clear it ASAP, it's just a nice thought to have just one debt :)

Tomorrow is a clearing and decluttering day, ready for the work on the house in less than two weeks :)

So excited for payday on Tuesday :)

I agree NSK it's been super quiet today!

It is getting to that time of the month when many of us are waiting for payday and to start planning over again!

I must admit I have had a spendy month but thanks to my buffer it's been ok! I've used my spending CC and then paid the money off right away and I've been chipping away at the 0% card.

Not much else to add but oh yes today WAS SF after all, which takes me nearer my target, it's been really good setting our own target as for me especially it's made it much more achieve able setting a lower target.

  • hello all! I have been lurking but not posting as there's not much of interest!!! haha!!

we're doing well with our leaving the cards at home philosophy and have racked up 12 NSDs so far so fingers crossed we will reach our target! Just 4 days til OH gets paid and for the first time since I can remeber we still have some money in our accounts!!!!!!!!!!!!whoop!!!!

and that's despite it being quite a costly month with us both getting haircuts, and flowers for parents for birthdays!!!

sorting out some full and finals at the moment - we're both fed up with the debt now especially having slogged so long and it still being over 10k - psychologically i think it will be great to get under that invisible line for the final hurdle!!!

mr kitty is lying in front of the fire! he costs us a bit more now with his food and stuff but I wouldn't change him for the world! he was definitely the right choice!!! I'm in love!!!!!!!!!:grinheart

hope you all have a lovely weekend? lord only knows why I'm awake so early! OH won't let me put the washing on until 10 to not disturb the neighbours!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

    Morning all,

Why is it that you wake up early at the weekend when you have time to lie in but can never get up naturally early in the week! Oh well, had an hour in bed catching up on the news so suppose I had better get up and get productive. The weather here is forecast to be rain so want to get to town and back before that happens.

    Have a lovely day

    Morning all.

Had a SFD yesterday, not today though as the new car is having a towbar fitted at a cost of £215, we are using the £100 current account switch payment towards this and budgeted for the balance.

DD is going to a party today, we bought the present a while back using vouchers and she has made a card from a lovely kit she got at Christmas.

Washing is on the line whilst the sun is out and me and DH have a bike ride and jog planned for later, it is freezing though and rain is forecast.

Been reading but not much happening so didn't want to send you all to sleep. Claiming NSDs for today and tomorrow as I'm not going anywhere. Did mention to DS3 before he went out that if he goes to SM (would be cookie/ sweets run for him and friend) he could get a small seeded loaf but this is because I made toast for his friend last time he was here. On my own normal bread consumption, I'd still have enough to the middle of April.

Also claiming another 2 de-clutter points as the basket of paper put out yesterday was the 5th (and I started another last night, culling recipes ripped out of magazines) and another 3 bags of carp will be going this week (2 already in bin, need something cutting down to fit in). So11/30.Can't remember if I was going to count pizza box mountains,as disposed of one of those as well - well I put it behind the front door and when DS3 came in,told him to stand on it and put it in the bin, then directed him putting the recyclables into their respective bins.

Yesterday I managed to change the sheet on my bed - moved boxes and bedding onto floor, took pillows and quilt for friend into DS3's room (he hasn't painted the other room),put pens, scissors and other little bits into a waste bin (easier to move about), threw sheet from my bed and one from DS3's (already hanging off the end) downstairs, carried box mountain down, set wm going. Was pleased to have done it in under half an hour but really needed to get back on the bed by then. Couldn't find the book I was reading -saw it in the wardrobe mirror, on floor with extra quilt (had been using it to elevate bad leg, trying to change position fairly often, leg bent/straight) which I hadn't put back - it had to stay where it was until the next bathroom/top up water 'run' :rotfl:ha -'run' :rotfl:if only.

In the afternoon I put 2 sheets and some clothes out on the line (3 trips down the garden) but couldn't do the remainder (or the rubbish disposal -thought I could do 10 minutes on a garden chair). Cursed when I got back upstairs as I had forgotten to take the banana skins down to go in bin for composting -wish I still had a lightweight shoulder bag, big enough to carry plates in but leaving my hands free -can throw washing, clean recyclables and small bags of rubbish (tied up) downstairs but not things that will break - piled everything in a (clean) waste basket to carry upstairs the other day. Eating a lot raw and re-using same plate for crispbread etc but pots still building up - and DS3 still managing to walk past the ones I've put at the top of the stairs.

No hot water this morning. DS3 has been shown how to re-pressurize the boiler so I stayed in foetal position waiting for painkillers to kick in, contributing the odd instruction - expected him to give up but his need for a bath won. After he had gone I found all the clean towels on the bathroom floor - that's where they're staying. I could sit on a box and put them away but I can't work out a way of getting back up afterwards and DS3 and his friend don't come back until 7.30/8.00 pm.

I haven't done a favour for anyone yet. I was going to ask if getting to the end of the month without killing DS3 counted, but I don't really want to. I am unbelievably calm. The bathroom was annoying, can I do anything -no. Any point fretting - no.

I don't think I will be going to exercise class - I don't think I can walk there and I'm not paying a £ each way if I can't do anything when I get there. The house isn't going to be up for sale by the end of the month. The kitchen, bathroom and hallway all need mopping. I can't find my accounts book (did check bank online). So many things are out of my control at the moment.

I have enough in the bank to pay all the beginning of the month standing orders and a bit besides (although cc minimum payments would take any excess if I paid as soon as they arrive, which I have been doing). The next batch of standing orders goes out mid-month but some are variable amounts). If some of the money I'm owed doesn't arrive by then I'll be doing the cancelling direct debits and re-instating roundabout, possibly have to borrow from mum (she has offered). The last few weeks before grant payments are always difficult (DS3's final payment is due mid-April). I can manage another week or 2 living from the freezer but not much for DS3.

Think I'm going to be cheering you on from the sidelines next month torties, (:j:j:j) I'll just be trying to survive. Let's hope this next game is the one that makes DS3's fortune (enough to pay his 'rent' till the end of the year would do). I'm so grateful that DS2 is going to be okay.

Tell baby thrifty to get a move on, I couldn't wait that long (DS1 was3 weeks early, DS2 4 weeks, DS3 tried for 5 weeks early then settled down until the last week). Good progress with your travel plans Kat. I would have put the washing out - they can complain about power tools but how will washing disturb them. I used to do the boys after I had got them all in bed and peg out at midnight - in spells of good weather it was ready by morning.
