morning all
decided that i am going to try and get a m-f lodger until i go on holiday in nov as it makes sense and sorts me out financially so i can do the rest of the stuff i want to do this year. just waiting to find out when friend is leaving to advertise the room. looks like i may need to buy one or two small bits like a lamp. also seems people offer to clean room and launder bedding etc.. for extra costs so trying to research that as well.
not much going on in money world. off to aldi today to get few bits and the water butt they have on offer. then doing overtime tonight and time and half :T:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
Morning,
Feeling pretty tired after 2 nights on the trot of work and from having given blood, felt a bit sick and dizzy last night, I'll know for next time to either swap my shift or go earlier!
Today WILL be SF as there is noway I'm going out, I'm shattered! Bread to be made, washing to put out and then lounging with DS before collecting DD from school.
5 days to pay day! Hurrah! Can't come soon enough!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
A SFD today and yesterday was aswell. Nothing exciting to report, except somehow I have managed to owe npower £87 now the switch is complete, despite barely having the heating on and being sensible with electric.
Our school isn't doing Sport Relief today they have to take sports clothes on Monday and pay £1 per child and the money isn't going to Sport Relief it's going to some random family that no one has ever heard of with a sick child. Might be a good cause but I don't think staff at the school should be picking and choosing who we donate our money to. The whole thing is a bit off in my opinion, I give to charities I feel strongly about but you can't not send your child with £1 really.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

have got the water butt- it is massive!!!! will need to wait for mum to help me install as need a drill plus i have to saw part of my drainpipe off to fit it so need to make sure its right! in other news i have been back out an looked at the side fence again and dont think it needs replaced. the strip stuck on the top is a bit fragile but underneath is solid so will either leave it or try and replace the strip. thats good news as will save around £100!
decided i would like a door in the doorway between kitchen and dining room to make dining room warmer. have one of the original doors in the loft (live in victorian house) but not sure if its the right size so will need to go up and measure it. the previous person took all the doors off downstairs but put them in the loft and left the closing bits and drop hinges on the doorframe so i literally just lifted the doors in place. will need to get someone to hang this door (if it fits) as none of the fittings are there. if the door is the wrong size will find a reclamation yard and see if can part ex my door for one that fits!
its such a lovely day here today i am hoping it stays like this all weekend and will get the garden done and go on a tip run i think.:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -

It's a tricky one. Because unless that family is well known to the school then it doesn't make sense. For me charity has to be meaningful to me, I don't like being bullied or guilt tripped into giving
I donated £1 to Sport Relief yesterday due to Jo Whiley's challenge, I loved all the radio coverage on it. I gave to cancer research as I have lost two people to cancer and an old school friend of mine and one of my bosses have survived breast cancer, it's a bit close to home like these days it is for many.
I gave blood due to the percentage of donors, I could not believe it was so low, to give someone a renewed chance at life is such a wonderful thing.
I give to the food bank as habit now, since I know that people in my town benefit from the food bank makes me feel I am supporting the community?
I give to a children's nature discovery charity every month and have done for years, I think it's so important to choose something close to your heart and see how it benefits others.
Being begged to please give after watching a TV clip or being accosted by a chugger in town doesn't do anything for me.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Been a couple of days since I last posted - Tuesday was SFD 9/15, and I'm hoping today might be 10. Got a works leaving do this evening though, so it depends how far the site budget for that stretches... Taxi is definitely paid for though! :money:
Been sorting myself out on the electoral roll at my new place as my 0% Tescimo CC deal ends at the beginning of June, so I'm on the lookout for a new 0% BT card. I had great intentions to have the debt on it cleared by now but I obviously wasn't really committed to the goal!
If we ignore the garage bill (which I am, it is under control) and just focus on the spending I am doing ok, according to my budget app I have £133.92 left across the petrol/grocery/ent&misc budgets, which should cover a night away to see Mr L, birthday & mothers' day presents for my mum, driving home to see her, and milk and bread next week. Feeling quite proud actually!“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.”

Kat - I would definitely accidentally buy a MacbookWas going to use my student discount to get one but can no longer afford it, so waiting for their 0% finance deal to start in November so I can get one then. I know credit deals are bad news but at 0% I really can't resist...
May I ask how long it would take you to pay it off or why not save up for it?.....(ooooooooh controversial).....:)“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Ten months (at least, that's the advertised deal - I could feasibly pay it off a lot sooner but not sure if there's an early repayment penalty or anything). Saving is a little way off for me yet, once I start getting paid (six months to go yet) I have £2k of (0%) overdraft to clear, then what I owe my parents. In the meantime my current computer is a tiny netbook with no battery and no multitasking ability, and if I need to do anything that requires computer brainpower I go to the university library. I won't have that option once I start work, but I'll still have various projects ongoing that need a computer, and I can't see the point in buying a cheap stopgap option only to end up buying the Mac later anyway, if I can just get the Mac for 0% at a monthly repayment I can well afford within my (then) budget. Does that make sense or am I making excuses? Be honest with me!New graduate trying to get debt-free.
