No spend day -not been further than the end of the garden. Stairs still a work in progress. Suffering from the gardening but quite a lot achieved in ten minute bursts with an hour resting + sorting/decluttering in between. Several cs bags on the go but not declaring until they leave the house (counting 5 items as one bag/ declutter point,as some items need a bag to themselves and others are tiny -few lurkers in the kitchen drawer).

'Looking for things' (hacksaw, wood glue, extension reel) has been useful as other items have turned up which will help with other snags. Friend also getting DS3 to do some of the work.

Currently working on Mother's Day card - found a part finished embroidery with all the outlining done.No need for the pattern, just colouring in with a needle.

My DS1 came three weeks early, his father had gone off to a conference 45 miles away. I was so cross that nothing was ready for the baby that I scrubbed the bathroom (trying not to watch the clock/anticipate contractions) before stomping off up the road (no house phone) to call the midwives and then the ambulance (running round stuffing half dry underwear in my bag before they arrived).

Was lucky with the ambulance crew-one of them sat in the back holding my hand and the driver was the partner of the woman who's cot we were buying (had agreed they would drop it off when they were moving).

Midwives left me in a room by myself all night and left my partner a message with the hotel switchboard. He phoned the hospital at 7am Saturday morning - they told him it was a false alarm and I would be being discharged once the doctor had seen me. He phoned back just before conference started and was congratulated on the birth of his son, at 8.32am. DS1 was 29years old yesterday.

    Keep toddling torties.

    MORNING Torties!!!

Sarah massive changed ahead for you! That a supreme change of scenery if ever there was one. We are quite friendly down here though so don't worry! When you leave bonny Scotland..? I have family in Kirkcudbright by the way...:T

So my cousin has just been on the phone with me at work. Now is the time I wish I had money. She is getting a divorce from her pratt of a husband and he "conveniently" never put her on the deeds of the house - we think! He has told her (after she went to stay with friend over the weekend) that she needn't bother coming back etc etc... so although we think he's being a bit stupid and her lawyer is on to it I just need money from nowhere to put her up in a hotel for 6 months until the end of term (she's a teacher) = £5000? (expensive up there apparently), money for a moving van to get her back to Ireland (£2000?) and enough tenacity to steal her dog back for her.... Grrr this angers me....

Anyway - my day will be consisting of research. My Money-Mentoring course starts tomorrow and they have said you need to bring something significant with you that you can "talk about in front of everyone" as a way of introduction. I need to think of something other than my cat...:rotfl:... and there is a little bit of homework to do before we get there...

First though - a cuppa. Hope everyone is doing swell today... I took the bus this morning. Such an easy ride... so I am not a wrecked as I could be! Chin up folks - the week is nearly over...:):):)

Congratulations SarahB! Most exciting... now the fun really begins! :rotfl:

Update from me is SFD #4 yesterday, getting there slowly! Meal planned like mad yesterday so am making last Monday's shop last until Thursday! :money: Admittedly I am helped in this venture by being at a hotel tonight on expenses (nothing glam sadly, in fact I am wondering how on earth I'm going to find a reasonably healthy meal) and in an all-day meeting tomorrow, lunch provided :).

I cashed in my free personal training session at the gym last night, and headed to the free weights area. I loved it! So satisfying! So I shall be building in my new (free) programme and hopefully sculpting some nice curves!! :rotfl: I'd like to have more PT sessions but it just isn't an option until I'm DF. The gym is enough of an extravagance!

Still on shuffling money about and damage limitation after the garage bill. Need to speak to OH about his London idea... I sometimes feel like he just doesn't really get it, and I feel bad for saying "no" to outings together because of the money I owe.

sorry to hear about your cousin kat :(

will she have to continue paying towards the house etc until the matter is sorted or can she stop? is there any possibility of her renting a room/studio flat instead of a hotel? 6 months is long time to spend in a hotel and its not very homely :( plus she will not be able to make herself food etc...

pretty sure that if they are married it doesnt matter whether she is on the deeds. hopefully she has proof that she was paying towards the house eg money going into joint acc that mortgage comes from or transfer to partner etc...

also (im going back a longgggg way now so may not be correct) but im pretty sure that even if she did not actually pay towards the mortgage but her financial contribution allowed him to pay it then she could still be entitled eg.- he pays mortgage and she paid bills and food, car etc... which allows him to have enough to pay mortgage.

sure it will all be sorted and her solicitor will get what shes owed but obviously that takes time so not good in the short term :(

Also congrats on the job Sarah! :j:beer::T

Do you have your Aussie passport yet Kat? That would be an excellent talking point: why you're intitled to it (used to live there) and why you wanted it back (plans for travelling)

I was planning a SFD today, but as I step through the door last night I realised I'd forgotten to go to Boots, and a genuinely need to go there today now, so that's another spend day gone. Boo! 7Ps strike again!

Oh good grief almighty why didn't I think of that! You are a GENIUS KarmaChi - it sums everything up. Being in debt meant I couldn't even afford to buy it never mind go there - genius you are a little genius!! AND I wanted something to sum up my travelling... :T:T:T:T:T

Clippy - my cousin was living in London with him as a "girlfriend" in his house. When they moved to the middle of nowhere and got married he bought the place they are in now outright so there is no mortgage. I don't think she ever contributed anything rent wise and certainly not towards the deposit or price of the house.

She barely earns enough to eat never mind rent a property or a studio flat. it's a very sad state of affairs because he is what could only be described as as a complete droopy drawers... I have other words to described his childish, brutish manner but MSE probably won't let me publish them...

She was a traveller, lived in Asia and worked for 3 years. He refused to travel after they got together and she said once they were married things changed for the worse.. he is a damp squid / spineless useless case of a man - honest to goodness I was shocked when they got married. He is an honest waste of space who decided to live where they are now as his sister and mother are within walking distance - known locally as the bermuda triangle. :rotfl:

Turns out people in the area can't stand him either and friends have come to the rescue at the moment... Her solicitor seems switched on but the deeds of the house are the issue. If he is the sole person on the deeds can claim half in the divorce - if he put his mother on the deeds then my counsin for whatever reason gets nothing. Not sure how that works though!

Question = Do you think every woman should have enough money tucked away in case she has to leave at the drop of a hat or as insurance in case things go peat tong?
