Did any of you used to read The Insider on Mortgage Solutions?

What on earth happened to that? It used to give me a good chuckle once a month. Much needed relief at times.

Submitted our first ever NatWest HTB - MG application last week, 26th March.

Faxed required documents to them same day.

Just had a call to say application agreed, no other requirements and valuation instructed.

    Not bad so far...

Santander just turned around a purchase application for us from app to offer Wednesday am to Saturday am.

What was especially pleasing was the fact that the clients came to us on the back of a decline from their main bankers.

Almost makes up for all the times when lenders get it horribly wrong.

Other than the Welsh one and the one in W Yorks any other ideas? Small niche lenders?

It's a referral from a good client and I'd like to help but not holding much hope...

I've just been having a giggle reading through the 'malapropisms' thread on my favourite football site.

    Thought I'd share a few;-

    damp squid
    escape goat
    solemn oaf
    tempting faith
    baring a miracle
    fraudulent slip
    pass mustard
    mute point
    tow the line
    pedal stool
    dangerous president
    neon nazi
    mister meaners
    baron spell
    mask murderer.

I know some are a bit 'homophoney', but still funny.

Just browsing through this thread and finding it quite entertaining. I know that my broker worked hard for our mortgage and I'm glad we used him.

Anyway, I thought I'd point out that "escape goat" isn't really a malapropism. The term was coined by William Tyndale when he made the first English translation of the Bible to translate the phrase "goat that departs/caper emissarius". He wrote it as 2 words, "scape goat", where "scape" was an alternative form of "escape" used at that time. It later got condensed into a single word. So "escape goat" is essentially the original English translation of "caper emissarius".
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

I did Latin at school but 'escape goat' is still funnier than 'caper emissarius'

A local building society close to the property location?

Can't think of an obvious solution, sorry.

Here's my contribution for the week (extracted from a message to unbiased and our network asking them to promote the problem for those who are not aware) .....

we believe that a group of scammers are now targeting mortgage brokers (sensible as we are used to making lengthy difficult calls - at our cost - to assist confused, foreign, demanding potential clients as part of our day to day business) with an 070 / 076 premium call fraud.....

    http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/news/consumers-warned-about-070-missed-call-scam/

We have received several contacts (call back requests from our own site and other online promotions such as unbiased (see below), ring off and/or voicemail requests) in the last few weeks.

Obviously, these look like a mobile phone number but (as explained on the ofcom link above) they are not and it is easy to rack up some considerable costs calling these (apparently naive, but actually well practised) crooks as they take you through a time delaying discussion on their needs.

Despite my noting this issue around a year ago and formally warning everyone in the office I actually found myself calling the enquiry via unbiased below without spotting the 070 number, fortunately identifying the 'style' within a few seconds and binning the call with some Anglo Saxon that I suspect my new Mexican chum could almost certainly understand.

A quick snap shot of our current bill (showing chargeable items ) shows a handful of experiences that have got through so far …

I would suggest that Unbiased should run a campaign to make sure its clients are aware of the risk, which I suspect will become endemic in the next few weeks.
