Ordered an engagement ring...

Hi, first of all I hope this is the right sub-forum to post this!

I've just purchased an engagement ring for my partner that I'm planning on giving to her on our upcoming holiday. I ordered the ring from Diamonds Factory after checking the sites FAQ which stated that the ring would be delivered in completely obscure packaging and no reference to the their name or the word 'Diamonds'.

However, after receiving the item, my shrewd girlfriend noticed a return address on the package with the name of the company's trading name, which has the word 'jewels' on. Also a quick google search of the name (which is 'Neve Jewels') comes up with tons on the engagement ring company...I believe I may have POSSIBLY managed to cover my tracks by telling her I received the item for my brother in law who ordered a surprise necklace for my sister but I'm not too sure if she believes that and the experience has been well and truly soured for me.

I really hope she isn't on to what I'm planning to do but should the company have done more to provide obscure packaging? Especially since I ordered it partially based on the fact that they stated that their wouldn't be any reference on the packaging.

Uhm, not sure, a snoopy girlfriend could have been prevented by you having it posted as you said to her to your BIL house:rotfl::rotfl:

Horrible coincidence but I had ordered the item to my parent's house, we just had to be there when it arrived by special delivery... :(
  • New poster because I've never had an issue that I felt the need to raise like this before...Also, it's the same company, not two separate ones. Read the post properly and FYI in the future maybe welcome new people to the forum instead...

Get your brother in law to verify the story (in secret away from his partner or you'll have two angry women!!) and I hope everything pans out in the end :)
  • Thanks. I think if she's already thinking what it is in her head then there's no changing that and I don't want to dig a deeper hole and risk it coming out if she is somehow still unaware. We go on holiday in a couple of months which is where I'm going to do it. I'm just so disappointed that the company didn't make me aware that the word "jewels" would be on the packaging...
  • Seriously what is wrong with the people here? What overreaction?! I got called a spammer with absolutely no basis for it whatsoever. Then someone puts a sarcastic response about warning absolutely every person they've ever came in to contact with like I was absolutely vilifying this company...

I shared a really horrible recent experience hoping someone might have some friendly advice or something. I absolutely LOVE the ring and the service I received up until the point the item arrived was wonderful, and I don't think I've really slagged the company off or made them out to be some kind of demon company, but in all fairness, my proposal to my partner of 8 years may be ruined because of this detail.

Can someone tell me what the hell I've done wrong here? Seriously the most unwelcome I've ever felt joining a site...

Maybe you could email the company and explain what has happened and that maybe they could use more discreet packaging in the future or have an option to choose discreet packaging.

The proposal will probably still be a surprise and even if she has guessed she won't know where or when. Good luck and I hope you have a long and happy life together x

It's just that we get a LOT of spam on here or people trying to tarnish the names of companies. If it helps, I DO believe you're genuine :D

Try not to take it personally.

Shame you both happened to be there when it arrived (was there not a way of tracking it beforehand?!).

Can understand you saying you received it for your BIL, but surely that would have been sent to your own address, not your parents'.

So long as she's suspicious about a ring for herself and not that you're buying jewellery on the sly for another woman!

  • Welcome to MSE ff7fan.

The forums here do get some spam/trolls, which tends to make people on here a bit defensive. Like any forum, there are some lovely people on here, but there are also some who can be unpleasant - I've been on the receiving end of it myself. I've learnt to distinguish between banter/defensiveness and nastiness.

I don't really have anything to add about your predicament, but just wanted to say welcome.
