No, I didn't. First claims company call was received the day after a very minor (not my fault) accident. No Police, no ambulance, no fire engine).

Aviva are claiming that every time a person accesses information about a claim on their system then an electronic footprint is left. It's entirely feasible that an employee taking the original call could hand write the customer's personal details.

Interested in this subject access request so will try and find out more about that.

They wouldn't need to. It's the insurance companies themselves who are passing your details on for a fee.

Thank you for this and look forward to updates. As you say, we all need to take action and a subject access request will be the next stage for me.

The FO has rejected my complaint so I've appealed.

Apparently it isn't illegal, just unethical.

Oh wow, I reported Aviva to the Information Commissioners Office, they sold my details the day after my no fault accident, and as I hadn't told anyone, I knew it could only be them and this was back in March 2012. The ICO believed it was Aviva's repairer pretending to me and calling them up for details on my claim, but this could not be identified as my SAR didn't cover all the calls! Aviva denied it all - then I get this letter from them along with an offer of a hamper and to pay to change to my mobile/home phone numbers 2 years later!!:rotfl:I told them where they could stick it - as all I wanted was for them to investigate and stop it happening to other customers, and as they're not prepared to listen to their customers, I've voted with my feet and took my car/home insurance elsewhere (not that I'll make a dent in their profits lol) - and I don't trust them to protect my data at all........

    hi Stephanie

Thanks for your kind offer, but I'm afraid you're over 2 years too late, and it was investigated at the time and I was helping your team to prove to you that it was Aviva where the data leak originated. It's all water under the bridge now.......:T

Just rope them in and elongate the call to 10+ mins and then say not interested.
