The reason the insurance prices have risen is because insurance companies make money from repairs and car hire after accidents, inflating the overall cost of repairs.

Small detail... Car insurance premiums have fallen over the last few years.

Just the first of many google results :- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/motorinsurance/10591779/Car-insurance-premiums-fall-by-record-14pc.html
  • Im also had my details sold on and im not happy about it. For them to say its not their fault ben though they were their employees is a cop out. To receive this many phone calls pressurising you to make a claim and throwing around 3k-4k figures to people when time are hard is not good. Being told i should claim for expenses, for any sort of pain including slight twinges. For the decrease in value of my car etc. I have had the same company call me 7 times over the space of the last 3 days. I am now telling them about the illegal sale of my details and that the police will be informed. I paid £800 for my insurance not exactly a small price. I trust my details would be kept confidential. Hopefully if the financial ombudsman gets involved it will stop all these accident companies and Insurers selling our info on. People don't want thousands but a gesture of good will would go a long way. Just for the inconvenience and agro. To accept just their apology won't stop this happening, all these accident companies cause our policies to go up each year which is why i will be taking the complaint further. This has affected tens of thousands. How many people have claimed when their was no need to. These accident companies are so convincing, but i have principles and it annoys me that prices keep going up.

    No, it really isn't.

SOMEBODY has committed a criminal offence, if the details really are being sold (I'm sceptical, btw).

If you were in charge of that business, wouldn't you be fairly keen to stress that it was an individual employee breaking the terms of their contract, rather than the business? Can you see the difference between the two?

So what your saying is that Captain Schettino of the Costa Concordia should pay compensation to the dead and for everything else, not the company or the insurance? Or should nobody expect any compensation because it was the Captains fault? Same principal, blame who you like and for whatever reason you like, people can still reasonably expect compensation.

Compensation to the injured passengers and the families of those killed would be paid by the insurers, regardless of liability.

And, yes, you're absolutely right - getting a couple of mildly annoying spam phone calls is utterly comparable with the sheer terror and loss of life of being involved a maritime disaster.

    Doesnt a couple mean two?
  • Funny..when I fill in the applications forms I always "accidently" get my phone number slightly wrong..however if I want something from them I make sure I correct it!

But probably not a good idea at the claims stage though if you are hoping to find out when you will be paid / how your claim is progressing.

When you are in this situation and your insurers have put you in this situation by not having the correct data protection procedures in place im sure you wouldn't be happy. How could they not know that this has been happening for months possibly years. Its been at least 6 months as thats when my info was sold on. With regards to details being sold on. They have admitted their employees have done just this.

They have a business need to ensure my personal details are kept safe within their system. Otherwise why have data protection laws.

I can see the difference between a business not wanting to pay out for a breach of their systems. Regardless of wether an employee has done it with or without their consent. If someone steals financial information on the internet its the sites responsibility to ensure this doesnt happen. The same principles apply. I have had more 7 phone calls today how is that right. I have not claimed for personal injury but my argument is that due to the people who claim when nothing is wrong, this increases everyones premiums. I would assume that you drive and pay for your car insurance. Because of this situation that means that your policy will be affected. I do not know how many people out of the "tens of thousands" have claimed when there was nothing wrong but we all know it happens. There needs to be better procedures to stop these accident claims companies and our instance companies passing our info over to accident companies or placed on a database that accident companies can access. And if reporting this breach of my data protection is the way to do it i will.

I suppose Aviva have a lot on their plate at the minute due to the 323 million thy have to pay out in compensation due to underpaying people on their pensions etc. Im sure there will be further problems areas highlighted soon.

Also what you call mildly annoying calls are not one or two they are constant and when you are urgently needing your phone for personal reasons this is not mildly annoying. Try getting calls at all hours of the day and night. I know i am not alone in this situation im just glad its come out before i renew.
