  • Having had a couple of NSD's I have got sucked onto various food shops on my walk home from work yesterday and today. My route takes me past 5 supermarkets/mini-markets and I couldn't resist popping in to look for bargains/offers! All if this not helped by daughter telling me at 7pm that she needed ingredients for cookery (profieroles - yum!) for school tomorrow, meaning another trip to the local Mr T's!

Since last post I have therefore spent:
£18.68 (local mini-supermarket on reduced fruit & sell-by-date butter, Co*p on reduced bacon for BLTs for sandwiches this week, a bag of reduced salad, reduced cheddar & Mr T's for ingredients for above mentioned cookery class plus tomatoes for the sandwiches). I also ended up with rhubarb (reduced price) which I have made into a crumble - hardly an essential food dish but has meant the yogurts which the kids usually have for 'puddings' have lasted a bit longer.

Am getting low on fresh fruit & veg (we seem to get through tonnes of the stuff) but am trying to put off shopping for this until the weekend to make sure the family finish off what's in the fruit bowl first; otherwise as soon as fresher stuff enters the house they go for that & discard the slightly over-ripe (but still edible) fruit we already have.

We'll see...there's the walk home from work tomorrow to contend with first...maybe I should leave my purse at home to stop temptation :D

Can I sign up here please? I'm setting a target of 500 euros for 5 people, dog and cat. We live in quite an expensive part of the world so it's going to be interesting to see if we can keep the bills down.

I'm counting from the 1st to the 31st and as today was a non spend day I am on 0/500
    Trying to keep in budget.

hi all, my budget for this month is the grand sum of £30. I have a freezer full of food and my store cupboard staples so I am refusing to spend anything on food unless I really need to!

    Wish me luck!
Good luck with your budget  that wouldn't keep me in fruit and veg for the month !!!

For those that remember me ordering my tortilla press, I finally got around to using it tonight! The tortillas it makes are a bit thicker than I prefer, and don't really work as wraps, but they are flat, kinda like flat bread, just a bit thinner. Eating prawn fajitas tonight with a fork with these flat breads. They're very good, and still way better than rolling each one out by hand, so definitely a good purchase!

Tanks for the update MrsT. I'm going to let OH keep rolling ours in that case, my poor arthritic hands couldn't do it ;)

That was me! Added to watch list. If anyone else buys one of these, don't forget to go through the nectar e-shops and make sure you're signed into nectar to get points. :)

I am going into town today for a small refund (overcharged at Morrisons) and to order a new prescription, so I'll be looking around in town first, but this one does seem like a good deal. :) Thanks!

£2.39 spent on a drink and popcorn on offer at mr t before the cinema last night. Didn't make my own as it was doubtful in the afternoon that we were going.

Checked my meal plan for next week and I only need wraps for DH lunches and a sliced loaf which I will freeze for later in the week. I may need a fruit and salad top up mid week but will see if I can do without as we go on holiday next Friday and don't want any waste.

I have done my meal plan for June (you can tell I am off work this week;)) using the AGCJ book and HFW veg book as I want to eat more veggie meals (was veggie until 2 years ago). I costed the first weeks shopping list out and bearing in mind there was a lot of meat on there as I am running my stock down this week and lots of fruit and veg it came in at under £50:T. A lot of the items like frozen veg will last the month too:). My job ends at the end of the month and I will not be working for a while so it is encouraging we can eat well for under what I was budgeting for.

Tonight's dinner will be M&S chicken in a cheese, bacon and leek sauce with HM wedges, peas and carrots followed by leftover berry crumble and ice cream:)

    Afternoon,

My first grocery spend for May is £124.82. This leaves me with £55.18 to last until 27th May.

I have enough meat in to last the month, and have enough of everything else to last for a couple of weeks, if not longer. I may need to buy some more fresh bits and flour by the end of the month, but hoping to keep this to the minimum.

Off to try and find room in my pantry for all the new tinned stuff!

I am going to try and have as many NSD as I can, to try and save some money from this budget towards long term savings.

    Good Luck all.
