A huge spend of £1.39 today! Was supposed to be a nsd, as I had asked bf to bring spuds as his contribution towards the roast dinner today, but he'd had a mare of a day, and I figured he'd probably forget, so I popped into ffoods on my way home from our day out. Turns out he had forgotten as well! I told him he can get me one of those big sacks on sat to make up for it!!

No meat lo from the roast today, as my best friend was round, so I fed her too. Ah well, instead of risotto tomorrow, we'll have the fish fingers we should've had yest, thus freeing up a bit more space in the freezer. It's funny; I've completely changed outlooks in the last year. I used to stress if there was the tiniest gap in a freezer/fridge shelf, or spot in the pantry, but now I don't like it if they're too full! I think it's because I then don't know what I have...?

Out to the park for the day tomorrow with a friend and her daughter, the one I looked after earlier in the week. We'll have an icecream out, but the rest will be picnic packup, so a nice frugal day out.

    Night all,

Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • Spent £7.04 in Mr T on my way home from work today to get fresh veg for the next few days, rather than go to a supermarket tomorrow (going to Homebase to make the most of their 15% off weekend and don't fancy more shopping than that!)

Not much left of the budget left now for 11 days (about £8!!), we'll see how we go! Still plenty of food in the freezer though, and I've *tried* to get my meal plan mojo back and have done some planning, so fingers crossed. The main issue will definitely be food to take for lunches/snacks at work. There are rolls in the freezer, and plenty of pasta in the cupboard, just need to see what we can make with what we've got!

going to a friends tonight for a drink
GOSH - I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT ! How terrible for you but I don't think you are going to miss much by not working for such a dis-organised and dis-respectful company. Really sorry.

I almost completely gave up on them early last year.

These things really aren't designed for a household of 1 or 2 :(
We use the Tesco ones to buy YS stuff and drink. We have wine with our dinner and also a drink at the week-ends. We don't drink much but the coupons make it even cheaper.

Had HM chicken curry tonight (freezer) with some surprisingly good tinned potato curry and tinned chickpea curry from Al*i. Put lo in freezer for another time as very tasty and cheap.

Going tomorrow to Morrys for some half-price salmon - freezes so well so will get enough for 3 meals.

Bad News this week - company DH was working for (over 3 years) has now decided not using agency drivers anymore so he's no work  He's scouting around for something else but in a bit of a quandary as they were putting him through his driver cpc next month and now that all knocked on the head as well and most companies will not take on without cpc now. Oh Well.

Hope you all have a great Easter weekend :easter:

But you can't guarantee you'd get a good supply of YS on any given day (and I've no freezer space to store anything). Drink isn't an option here as I've been tee-total for 5.5 years, but even before then I'd not have more than 2 or 3 bottles of wine and 4 tins of cider a year. These days just a sniff of alcohol is enough to make me woozy!! I bought a pot of thick double cream with vanilla liqueur to go with strawberries last year thinking it'd be OK as there's no age limit on buying it - and how wrong was I much to OH's amusement :rotfl:

Apologies if I have posted to the wrong forum!?- I am totally new to this and haven't been on here for ages-over a year!- Thing is we are constantly overspending - £500+ last month on groceries includes - toiletries and wine/beer- so desperately need to reduce that amount and am amazed at the amounts that some of you spend on groceries - OMG! We - that is 3 of us in the house thats 2 adults and one teenage daughter.
  • Bit the bullet and have defrosted freezer :D....played freezer tetris with the small one and have a bumper cook planned for tomorrow for the things that wouldn't fit in...have a joint of beef to cook and then re-freeze, wine to make from the fruit and a gammon joint to cook which I will eat from Sunday....having beetroot soup tomorrow with a pack of rolls that have come out and am cooking chicken stock for the puppies biccies....also cooking a ys marrow with tomatoes, onions, red pepper, herbs and goats cheese at the moment to have for tomorrows dinner....hopefully, this will mean a very economical May challenge as I have failed so miserably this month!! :o

  • Hi all - just updating sig with a small Al*i spend today. need to work out what else I need for the rest of the month.

I have just received another load of Mt T vouchers - they are all brilliant as for things we use so I will save them to end of month and use to help stock the rapidly emptying cupboards. Thanks Mr T!!!

Keep up the good work and welcome to any newbies- you'll get really good support and tips on this thread.

  • So after last months success with pledging £450 and coming in at £407.21 I thought I would aim lower. I have to report in now.....

Busymumofthree hangs her head in shame.......:o

    £567.42/£400.00:eek::eek:

In my defence we did have a number of visitors, two birthdays and a retirement in the house all in the last two weeks but even at that I'm quite appalled. I did menu plan too. I think over the next couple of months I will be seeking out cheaper meals, more veggie options. Will be putting DS back on packed lunches and incorporating that £17.50 weekly into food budget.:)

So for April - May (15-15th approx) £400. See if I can achieve it this time.....:p
