Does anyone know .... are the decision makers centralised or does it vary on where you are located?

We've just submitted our papers to Abbey (santander) via our broker, he said there was now a 3-4 day delay on paperwork checking, he also made the point that he only submits what they ask for initially and then they will decide if more needed. If underwriter wants more paperwork, we then go back to the back of the queue with the underwriter.

Tues 25th June - sat down with broker to fill in Santander mortgage app
Wed 26th June - he emails to say it's being 'processed' and I pay the arrangement fee to him

Should I have received some sort of acknowledgement from Santander? Or will that go directly to the broker? Happy to wait but don't like the lack of information!

Application went in to Santander around the 3rd June,
came back from under writer twice. So nearly a month before survey instructed.

Based in Kent for the slow survey!
  • I don't think they instruct the survey until the case is agreed. Here's our timeline so far...
May 27- Full Application via broker

June 9th- Additional document requested(letter from accountant)

    June 11th submitted document

June 19th Underwriters agree application (yay!) sbject to valuation

June 23rd Have to switch to a solicitor from their panel. New solicitor details submitted. Did not realise that this meant back of underwriting queue AGAIN, but apparently it does.

Still waiting for valuation to be instructed...
  • Could someone possibly tell me how I find out my tracking details?

I've not had anything from them and can see that you are all tracking the status of your app - how do we do this? I gather all info is going to my broker and not to me...

    Hi

You can ask your broker for a case reference number, and your password will be your current post code where you have applied from.

Good luck. The waiting process is horrible, and the fact that santander have a stupid system where each time the underwriter requests information, your application goes to the back of the queue!. So frustrating.

My application is due back with the underwriter tomorrow, but i have a horrible feeling they will ask for more information (which the broker probably has already), and it will be back in the queue for another week again.

Something odd is going on with our Abbey application (via broker). Odd-good or odd-bad remains to be seen! The application went in last Wednesday (25th) and most of the necessary docs were supplied to our broker (a couple of things are taking a few days to get hold of). The broker texted me on Friday (27th) saying the application had been approved and valuation instructed!!!

I called the broker today (I've been away all weekend) and he said they haven't requested any documentation for us at all. All of his Santander applications are underwritten (there is or was a fast track thing but he doesn't use it) and so he didn't really understand what was going on.

Has anyone had a similar experience with this lender? I am assuming they will be scrutinising our finances at some stage prior to actually offering us a mortgage?
