I am pretty new to sewing, although I have made a few things (curtains, bags and skirts) and I am looking into getting a pattern to try out but I have zero experience using them, so I'm a little confused
On the packets there is pictures of multiple garments, can you make all of these things with the one pattern or is it a case of 'choose one item?'
And can I use the patern a few times over? Ie if I wanted to do a top, could I make three in different fabrics using the same pattern? Or is it a new pattern everytime?
I have read that the simplicity range is best for beginners, is this true? Or can you recommend another brand?
Also, while I'm here, can anyone direct me to an online store that sell 'cheap' fabrics to try on? Bearing in mind that I don't use ebay.
If you are new to paper patterns I can recommend Simplicity.
One of my favourites is

I have used it 6 times in the last year, making trousers, shorts, cropped trousers and a couple of skirts.
Each item is made up of 5 or 6 pieces. Pockets are used in all items, other pattern pieces are used just on skirts or just on shorts.
The pattern pieces can get a bit tatty, but I iron them on a cool setting before pinning them onto the fabric.
Oh, and I have made this dress 4 times in different fabrics … (view

Here is an easy pattern range by simplicity (I have never used these, as I learnt how to follow at pattern at school many years ago)

I have stitched - Redwork on to a tea towel - another part of a Christmas present ready. I used a vintage kitchen image and stitched in black to match the tea towel. I bought the tea towel in Paperchase - during a sale of course.
I have done frayed edges on this one - I backed the old cotton sheet that I stitched on with some interfacing. I will do stitched edges on the next tea towel - what do you think is best?
Love your makes Florenceem.dizzy_lizzie wrote: »Florenceem your makes are quite beautiful.
I keep saying I must post some of my makes but having to do it through photo bucket always takes time and I've usually forgot my password!
Most of my pics are on my iphone and I'm not sure you can post pics from it on to here.
I've started a baby boys quilt. Just a simple small squares one but the material is cute so it should look sweet.
I didn't know about the stash busting thread either even though I read your post about it  I need something to motivate me in that area!
Thanks tattycath

I've used quite a few patterns from this site. They're cheap, but you have to download the pattern and instructions and print them out, then you have the fun of glueing the pattern pieces together. Be careful with the sizing though - it's not UK sizes, so you need to check the size chart.0 -

I am new to sewing and made two bags one for my mum and one for a friend - I have been trying to post a photo of one of them with little success at this time
Hey Ho I will get there lol
I'll try and explain it but it always sounds trickier than it is...
upload your photo to somewhere like 'photobucket'.
Copy the image and then have a look at the icons above.
Click on the one 4th from the right that looks like a mountain and then past your copy into that. I know when I do it I have to remember to delete the [img at the beginning and end.
That sounds confusing. I'm sure someone can explain it much more simplerOfficial DFW Nerd Club Member no:219In the Court Of The Crimson KingI don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.Gary Larson0 -

Well, today is a very sad day. I'm having a new extension built at the back of the house. I have to pack away my sewing machine for up to 6 weeks
The up side is I will have lots more room for creativity in the very near future :jSlimming world new starter 2/1/17:D:DWeight loss so far 5 stone 8 lbs
