I have been playing around with my embroidery Machine. Loving it. But have my Alterations etc to tackle before I can play again.
Elaine on Mortgagefreeinthree has a good tutorial for a jeans apron. See if I can copy a link over. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Hi. Lovely fabric!I've been looking for cheap fabric suppliers (my closest being hobbycraft ) after also ordering the new look sale patterns . I've just looked and Leicester is only about an hour away so it might be worth a shopping trip! Can you recommend where to go - if shop names are allowed? If not could I get you to pm me info please?

Hello
I'm a novice sewer (done curtains and cushions up to now). I was thinking of having a go at making some clothes for myself. Now, the problem I have with buying clothes is I'm quite tall so it's hard to get things to fit. So I'm thinking if I make things myself, I can make things a bit longer. (I'm thinking tunic type tops). Can any experienced sewers tell me if this something that it's feasible for a beginner to do? Is it as simple as adding some extra length into the body of the garment?

Hi Bigbird, most patterns would have a line drawn across the body of the pattern where you can add some length in especially tunic style tops. You just cut across the line and add some extra paper in to the length you would want. make sure you add the length to all the pieces that show the line and double check before cutting your fabric as you wont want to cut them all out then fine one piece that is too short as you forgot to lengthen it. Check twice, cut one xx0 -

I generally go to Leicester Markey on a Saturday. There are 3 stalls selling fabric. One is very inexpensive, but can be hit and miss. He sometimes has great stuff. I bought some amazing "Next" wool flannel before Christmas to make a skirt, just £3 a metre!
His stall is towards the rear of the market. near Horsefair St (back of the Nationwide bank).
Most of his stuff is £2-4 a metre, but he does a £1 special bit.
Other than that, There's Fenwicks on Market St and John Lewis's

Thank you! Yes, that helps a lot. It sounds great especially as most of the "cheap" (poor quality) fabrics around here start at £5+ per metre. I will be having a trip to Leicester soon
Is the market on every day and is the fabric stall there on every market day too? Oh dear, it's next to my bank; means I can just pop round if I spend more than I plan to :rotfl:2025 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN MrsSD. Physical 92, Digital 203, 10 Used Up
