I am back and raring to go!
My industrial machines arrive today, so it will mean only urgent stuff gets sewn because I will be rejigging the shop if I can!
I can see my needing to find some muscle to help me move it.
Hope everyone are finding time to see and be creative. My 80 year old Mum has bought an all singing and dancing embroidery machine and is having a great time making samplers. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I am getting to grips with a tripod and my iPhone to be able to video my classes etc
Happy Sewing! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hope all goes well and a huge increase in business, must be very nervy spending so much money out. Mind you, you only get out what you put in but i am sure you will be successful.2020 Stash makes/destash 61/1500

Thankyou. Yes it's always nerve wrecking spending money as you never know what work is going to come through the door. I just have to have faith that the standard of my work is good and people will return when they need me, and that they will spread the word.
Today was good, but hectic and we had to loose some work as they wanted it today and by the time they came in, nearly lunchtime I had already had 6 today jobs that pushed the regular work back.
The new machines arrived. Only snag is they are so heavy we can't get them up the stairs, so we will have to sometimes work downstairs again. So I have to rethink the shop layout. Perhaps we are outgrowing the space already!!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I found a nice bag pattern on a blog called SoZo, I've cut one bag out, I'm just waiting for the interfacing I've ordered to arrive so I can finish it, I may cut another one out in a different colour tomorrow.Chin up, Titus out.0

Oo that will be nice Hester.
I so want to play with creations and fabrics but luckily I'm too busy with the alterations etc. However today I got a commission from my whacky lady to make a really retro dress, out of some very unusual curtains and dress fabrics that I had in the shop.
So I will be paid to play.
I tested my blind hemming machine today!
Eek it's amazing. Will need to do a few experimental jobs before I let myself loose on customers clothes/curtains though. It will speed up my work no end and reduce the number of holes I get in my middle finger from hand sewing!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Watched the sewing bee last night with only one eye. Got distracted at the cover stitch machine, and decided to go on line and look at them! Good job I recorded it. I have bought a machine, on order as they are out of stock. But I know once I get to grips with it it will be a huge game changer in my alterations business as more and more items are stretch stitch these days.
Now to work out the maths and see how long it will take me to recoupe the money! Ordered a nacchi 4050 at £399 plus vat!! So a lot of hems will be sewn before I cover my costs, however currently I have to cut, overlock and then stitch twice to get the nearest effect. I should reduce my time by a third! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi Have not been on in a while so catching up:) I have made a Christmas stocking for my little grandson who is two and a half and one each for his Mum and Dad. I am just slowly learning, and I bought letters and little stars to decorate them with and I am so pleased that they look so nice. I bought the fabric letters and stars from a seller called Wendy who sells them on Not on the high street. I cannot upload a photo of them as I have nothing to do that with.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Mooloo, not seen you on here for a while, hoping things are gong well for you, and you are still busy. Still amazes me how many folk are unable to turn up trousers etc or sew a button on. I blame the fact that sewing is not taught in schools any, not even domestic science. My two fav subjects as aschool girl in the sixties.2020 Stash makes/destash 61/1500

I am so busy with alterations but I plan to ear mark a set time at the end of the day to create. I have to put new things into the shop, as the makes I have are all from before the shop was opened.Time flies and the shop has been open now for two years ( well by next Monday). The last year of my current lease. So I have until April to decide if I want to stay and negotiate a new lease, or relocate.
So everything counts now and any tweeking of procedures and looking for ways to be more profitableWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
