I've often seen patterns without covers for sale. Presumably it's because the shop decides to try and sell them rather than destroy them.
The price of patterns these days make it an expensive hobby. I rearly by them now and only if i will get plenty of use from it. I alter what patterns i have or draw up my own design. A side from that i would love a Emery dress design pattern but at £14 i won't, as i can't justify the cost. Yes its a designer pattern but way out of my budget. Still on the subject, over on the blog site a million dresses, Sarah whose blog it is, has made over 100 versions of this dress and i love the look.
Happy sewing ladies, a none sewing day for me as its my birthday. I am 65 but 20 inside, wish my body felt 20 but that's life.

    Happy Birthday Rosie!
I agree patterns are expensive. They are expensive to me as well!
As a stockist I have to pay for the pattern books, carriage charges, and a rental for the cabinets plus VAT. So far it has been a huge loss to me so I probably will have to stop being a stockist but then I have to pay to have all the filing cabinets returned to them as well!!!
Which is hundreds more that I don't have.

On another note today my pupil finished her muslin basic pattern. Over the last few weeks we cut it out, tacked it, changed it and todsy we marked the new seam lines dots etc, then cut off the excess etc leaving her basic pattern pieces now overlockers to use as her basic pattern for her wardrobe.
For the rest of the day, I continued to work on the Indian dress, finished the unusual jacket made out of furnishing fabrics. Oh and replaced a zip in a jacket.
Then tonight it was sewing on labels to DGDs clothes for her trip on Wednesday.

  • I've not been on here for absolutely ages, but know that here is the best place for an answer.

I've just bought a True Cut Sharpener for my 45mm blades but when I've used it, it has completely blunted my blade.

Does anyone have any experience or advice? Is it me or is it broken?

    TIA

I don't use rotary cutters much as I don't have the strength in my arm to put enough pressure to use a cutter. So I can't advise.

I have made a huge step and ordered an industrial sewing machine and a blind stitch hemmer for my little shop so the future of the shop may be better.
I hope my investment will pay off soon as I build my business. It's a scary thought that I have spent huge amounts of money at this time of the year but I hope it will help me in the long run.

I miss my own creative time and the transition from hobby to business is really a difficult one.
As a business person I don't get the time to sew creatively anymore.

  • Thanks Mooloo

I hope that your investment proves helpful. I loved seeing your makes when I was in here more regularly.

It is this group that has inspired me to try and gain my confidence with my sewing.

I made my first lot of bunting for the PTA Easter Disco a couple of weeks ago.

I was very pleased with myself, because I've suffered a lot with a lack of confidence. My mother is a very accomplished sewer and because I could never be good enough, I was completely intimidated.

I've now cut ties with her and am really seeing the benefits. Not only did I make the bunting, but it came out really well. I'm not sure how to put a photo on to show you.

I'd still like some help with the blade sharpener if anyone can help.

I used to upload my pictures via Photobucket I think.
But since using my iPhone I haven't worked out how to upload pictures so my makes when I get to do them are usually on my mooloos of Brackley Facebook or mooloos makes also on Facebook.
I have put a picture up of a jacket that I just finished for a client. It's made out of upholstery fabric so was not very easy to sew but she was happy with it.
If you need help or advice I will do my best to help.
It is always difficult to grow when in the shadow of a negative person which your Mum sounds like. Usually they are threatened that you are actually better than them so by bringing in doubt they tend to crush your confidence.
Most people can see, if they have enthusiasm and practice.
I teach a young girl who says "I can't" before she even tries to do anything and I noticed that she can if encouraged to begin.

  • Thanks Mooloo, I've liked your FB pages, so I'll be able to see your makes again.

I find that because I've seen my Mum sew for so many years, I often have a reasonable idea of what to do, just not much experience or confidence to do it. Although I used to make some of my own clothes many years ago without a pattern, hopefully, I'll get back to that again.

I might have resolved the problem with the sharpener, I'm going to exchange it for another one, so hopefully this one has a problem and I'll have a sharp blade once again soon.

I'll try and pop in more regularly, I really miss reading this thread.

The thread is a lot slower then it used to be, I think there is a Facebook page now that several post on, but I was a member under my Mooloo name on Facebook and I don't use that one anymore.
After my holiday I will take a look and see if I can find it.

  • I have liked that page, but there's not much posted on there that I can see.

I have made arrangements to exchange the sharpener so hopefully I'll have a sharp blade soon and can get back to making t shirt yarn and bunting!!!

Good luck with the blade sharpeners.
Time I got a move on I still need to pack!
When I get to work I have a couple of children's duvet covers to make for my grandson. On top of the alterations.
