    Oo me an inspiration!
    Think I'm more a fool.
Been doing the accounts all day and I wonder when I will earn money for me not just the bills.
I miss making things but just don't have the time at work and the energy at home!

I read lots of people on here do craft things but do some of you make all your own clothes like dresses, trousers etc.

I have today cut out some trousers after making up a pattern from some shop bought trousers that fit quite well (unusual). My problem is my shape. I am sausage shape with quite thinish legs so to fit round the fat bit the legs are too big.

This is entirely experimental so it may not work, but hope it does.

As long as you cut your fabrics on the straight of the grain you should be ok. I used to make my own clothes and my kids clothes when younger but obviously now it's my job then I don't make much at all.

Good for you, i've gotten back into making all my own clothes now and aim to only buy things i really need such as underwear, tights etc. I told a friend about all this, her reply was well Primark is cheaper. Well yes but my are better made, a one off and i get the satisfaction on wearing stuff that no one else will be wearing. When my kids were young they wore all home made clothes and were the best dressed for miles around if i do say so myself. I had little money but lots of time so it was spent sewing so that myself and my kids were well dressed. I choose to be a stay at home mum, those were speacial days

Alas cheap imports are the reason we lost the art of sewing and the mills stop making material and that then means the cost of fabrics has gone up as a rule as it has to be imported.
I make my own pretty knickers!

I haven't posted here for absolutely ages but always read what others are up to!

I am feeling dead chuffed with myself and here is the reason why.
After visiting a high street store to buy new nighties I was disappointed in the quality of the the fabric....a lot of poly/ cotton and I prefer 100% cotton...and the price.

Bit of on line research, a search through my pattern box and a drive to Leicester to buy 100% cotton at £2 yard and I have made 3 nighties for just over the price of the one I bought last year.

What to make next....I am on a roll.

Good for you, something i have never made. Chesterfield had a great market stall that sold cheap but good quality fabric. Iloved going through the off cuts box and finding a bargain. Alas not visited the town for 30 years so doubt the stall is still there.
I stocked up with stash when i lived in Germany. Seemed to remember a shop in Aldershot that sold good reasonably priced fabric that was again years ago. Nothing is nicer then feeling the fabric and holding it against your skin.

Loughborough, Nottingham and Leicester markets used to have some amazing fabric stalls years ago as a result of the clothing manufacturing in the area. I often used to buy high street clothing fabric from them as the traders would buy the end of rolls and seconds fabric from the factories. They were great value.

I stock up on fabric when I go to the US....even pre-paying for an extra case to bring back. This doesn't contain all fabric but things like patterns, Gutterman cotton threads, trainers, jeans etc.
What I save more than pays for the cost of the case.

I haven't been for a couple of years but will be going in June so saving my money.

I had to do a stock take of the patterns this week, well staff did it for me, and we had to return discontinued patterns to the suppliers- the covers anyway and the patterns have to be destroyed. So Erm I have a few for my personal use! ( I found it really difficult to send perfectly good patterns to the recycling paper!)
Yesterday I made headbands with the children in the sewing lessons.
Always trying to think of what I can do in only an hour with them!

I've often seen patterns without covers for sale. Presumably it's because the shop decides to try and sell them rather than destroy them.
