Can I ask another couple of questions of everyone?

If I'm going for a job and applying through an agency should I be honest with the agency? Or should I just wait until I get to interview stage? Secondly I've sent my CV to a few agencies on spec...if they don't get back to me should I chase them?
I interview my agency staff just to show them the job, get a feel about them, how they come across, how they respond the the environment and whether I think they would want the job. It's not so much about skills as the jobs are relatively low level and trained on the job.

If someone like you presented yourself at interview like you have here I'd give you a chance because I suspect you'd be relieved to be back in work and make even more of an effort not to lose the opportunity. Sure I'd keep an eye on you but also recognise a motivated hard worker is good for business. Then you build from there.
  • Thanks Sensible....but should I be honest with the agency? If I am will they actually put me forward for jobs? Even temp jobs?

    Real wobble today :-((

IMO, yes. If you're not they'd likely ask why you're looking for work and/or reason for leaving last employ.

The agency will obviously consider who may employ you. At the same time if they can place someone who they think is reliable and easily managed once placed its easy money for them.

You might have to consider jobs out your comfort zone. Packing and production line jobs for example don't offer the opportunity for a repeat occurrence.

If an agency asks you, just change the subject to if you can, but if not say "I left through mutual agreement, (which is true, as you agreed to be sacked) but this has turned into a good thing really opening lots of opportunities which I didn't know existed. What really interests me about this is particular role is that it plays on my strengths blah blah blah.
I'd be a bit more honest at interview, and say "Look I want to be brutally honest, I make a really stupid mistake, but I'm determined to turn this into a good thing...blah etc."

As for dealing with agencies, I'd always ring them before I send a CV, on some pretence or other i.e. you've seen an advert for a job they are advertising, it's not in your feild, but it's clearly the industry you'd like to work in and if they are talking to HR then they might hear of an opportunity ...etc

Anything to get your voice heard, rather than them seeing a line of text on an email.

Finally, Have you used linkedin ? Build an online profile, and reinvent yourself.

That attitude will not get you a job. (It might but often desperation is the message)

    Try:

I am proud and I have these rare and significant skills, qualifications and personal qualities, that very few people have. If you are lucky I'll share them with you.
  • Terrible day....cannot get myself out if this low...my head is bursting with everything just running round and round....

I do want to be honest but I need to pay bills etc.

Be honest ....if you're not you'll drive yourself crazy in a new job waiting for someone to somehow find out and the axe to fall.

That's my advice to you as you're a worrier ......It wouldn't always be the same advice to someone else-it all depends on individual personality.
