I'm sure if you had been in the latter stages of labour and with husband in tow they'd have squeezed you in a garage/stable or something;)

Interesting. Where had you planned to stay, had the train been on time? Did you expect Premier Inn to accommodate everyone from the train, or just you?

I was just about to post a praise for Premier Inn!

We stayed recently and were asked if we knew about the 'Good night's guarantee'. I said that we did, but had had a very poor sleep the last time we'd stayed as we couldn't turn the heat down.

We had mentioned it as we left for our early flight, but didn't have time to press the point.

Lo and behold, our credit card statement shows that we have been credited for this recent visit.

As for OPs problem, if the place is full, it is full!

    *cue twilight zone music*

I have just remembered - I was 'outed' as an employee of PI some time back. (Although, IIRC, I *think* I now work for Subway;))

I should've stayed away from this thread :rotfl:

  • It sounds as though you had a dreadful journey, but I'm not sure how you can possibly blame Premier Inn for not being clairvoyant.

No - you mistake me. I did not ‘turn on the waterworks’ to get my own way. I was exhausted to the point that I had started to shake and the tears came as I was leaving, more as a stress release then anything else.

I am a resourceful mature woman who is normally on top of most situations. I just happened to be caught out in exceptional circumstances and would have appreciated a little human kindness, which was sadly lacking at the Premier Inn. Luckily I did find that kindness in a local B&B owner who admitted me at 3am (no ‘waterworks‘ involved). It is reassuring to know that there are still some people around who are capable of kindness towards others.

this was in dorchester and what was the name of the b and b and the lady who let you stay at 3 am, well done that lady, so we know where to go should the same thing happen to any of us, she definately needs her own thread of recognition in excellent customer service, dont you think ?

I agree with you that Premier Inn just demonstrated what sort of hotel they really are.

It would not have hurt the receptionist to try and make a few phone calls for you and find somewhere.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
  • I get you may have been a little emotional after your journey but did you ask if they knew of anywhere or had a yellow pages ?

In my experience people aren't mind readers and whilst it may have been good customer service to offer an alternative, you can't really complain if you didn't ask

Was the OP not capable of doing that herself? In the absence of evidence to the contrary, it is reasonable to assume that she had a mobile phone. I would have done that on the train.

To be honest, I think that most people know what sort of a hotel they are.
They are a budget hotel chain offering rooms for a very reasonable sum and because of this, their customer service will reflect the sort of money that they are charging.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that a lot of the people who work there are paid fairly low wages and I wouldn't expect the same sort of service or help that I would from a 4 or 5 star hotel or from a small family run business.
