The OP traveled half the country in this weather, on a Friday night, didn't think of booking a hotel until 2 in the morning.
Would any normal, rational person do this int he weather we've been having, particularly a single female?
Why did she leave everything to chance? She's exactly the sort of person the emergency services waste their time dealing with.
Considering she was a "lone female" and all that.....0 -
even if her train had been on time, she was due to arrive at 8 pm so really should have had some sort of accommodation organised
common sense should tell you that if your hoping to acquire accommodation on the 'off chance' you really need to start looking/ phoning places alot earlier
As my old Dad used to say "Prior Preperation Prevents Pi** Poor Performance".;)0 -
Wow! Is the OP an author? That reads like Mills and Boon type stuff. How would you finish that sentence?
As I stood looking perplexed with tears welling up in my eyes....................
...............suddenly he grabs me, tipping me across his lap. With one smooth movement, he angles his body so my torso is resting on the bed beside him. He throws his right leg over both mine and plants his left forearm on the small of my back, holding me down so I cannot move … He places his hand on my naked behind, softly fondling me, stroking around and around with his flat palm. And then his hand is no longer there … and he hits me—hard.

I think the vision of a train driver going out onto the tracks with a chainsaw is not too plausible, not without risking his job. He works for the train company not Railtrack who look after the infrastructure of the railway.
Imagine.....he has a train load of passengers, he is outside doing a hazardous action which is not his job...or his companies. He slips with the chainsaw and amputates a hand or leg....what happens to a couple of hundred people then?.
As the rail industry is one of the most H&S aware industries around I don't think Bob Crow would applaud the actions of probably one of his members. If this incident did happen....I think we have both end of the scales in human endeavor here, PI staff couldn't give a monkies about the OP and the train driver who risked live and limb at the other end of the scale.0 -

Texas Trainsaw Massacre,
That'll be £5 licencing fee if you want to use that0 -

OP has already conceded that perhaps the saw used wasn't a chainsaw.
Also worth noting that the company you mention, Railtrack, has had nothing to do with railway infrastructure since 2002.0 -

Just as aiorcradft carry a large fire axe on the flight deck, but the crew are subject to the same security restrictions as passengers! Go figure!0 -
Absolutely correct..3rd October 2002 infact.
Interesting point though is that Railtrack has never ceased to exist, it was reconstituted as Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd and as sowas the defendant in later prosecutions bought about by events during the days of Railtrack.0 -
I haven't read all of the thread, but I don't know where the chainsaw came into it!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670

I am completely confused as to why anyone would turn up in a city with nowhere to go?
My husband and I played it by ear on our honeymoon in South Africa. We had the first place sorted where we were staying when we arrived, but just called around on the day for the subsequent places.
It worked amazingly for us, but if there were no rooms anywhere, we'd not blame anyone but ourselves!0
