@JohnR0I am sure they meant sycophants but I could be wrong.
Vote Bob Roberts!0 -
You aren't talking about GBP, and if the new independant Scotland wants to call its currency the Scottish Pound no one cares, but that wont make it Sterling GBP.
I thought I had made that perfectly clear. If you want to link your currency you need to link the countries.
Again that is what I said. A currency union is a totally different matter to the simple use of a currency by name.0 -
good that you agree.
i still really can't see it happening. if it does though, it would help the Tories to strengthen, and i think it would also increase the likelihood of the UK leaving the EU. i'm in favour of that too.0 -
I am planning to move my SIPP and ISA account from HL. The two leading companies I want to go with ii and ATS are both based in Scotland. I am concerned about what would happen to my account should Scotland vote for Independence as I wouldn't want my finances to be based outside of the UK and its financial regulation.
Has anyone any thoughts about this?
Do you think my concerns are unwarranted?Interactive Investor Trading Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and a Member of the London Stock Exchange. Registered Office: Standon House, 21 Mansell Street, London E1 8AA. Registered in England with Company Registration Number 3699618.
The fact that their call centre is in Glasgow is not really relevant.koru0 -
In reply to the OP question, i would do nothing just now. Even if there is a yes vote - actual independence would be some years off.
I'm Scottish and hold lots of accounts in UK companies (based down south) . If independence does happen (personally undecided) i wouldn't be moving my money in a hurry0 -
The Union Flag will look a bit odd without the saltire, sort of like a red spider. We should invite the Welsh to contribute something after all these centuries, perhaps a dragon0

You mean rUK leaving - Scotland would either remain, or join.0 -

It makes me laugh when pro Scottish independence voters support EU membership, if you want independence why don't you also want independence from the EU.
Quite soon, Financially it will be a disaster for anyone who holds the Scottish currency, lets call it the 'thistle bitcoin', debt will explode with no decent revenue base. Don't forget that Salmond is left leaning and he will borrow for his egotistical project, sure he will blame it on the evil English but that wont help pay for the mess he will create. I pity the children of Scotland, funnily enough Salmond doesn't have any.0 -

Why do you assume that the SNP would be the government in an independent Scotland? Even if they succeeded and independence was achieved to their timescale in March 2016, Salmond could be out on his ear in the elections of May 2016.
P.S. Given the UK is £1.3 trillion in debt, I think your comments about Salmond over-borrowing are a bit premature.0 -

The bulk of my investments are held in UK companies also based down south. I'm not planning on any rushed withdrawal just yet.
Perhaps I'll just have a mad spending spree later!0
