the documentary that was on a few years ago referred a lot to how RBS had a lot of business which was no longer retail banking. by comparison Lloyds is very retail-based.0

You've heard the phrase, lunatics running the asylum.
The big question, are people who quote wikipedia as truth sycophants?

What about the hit that Nicola Sturgeon is saying that the sterling balance of payments would apparently take in the event Scotland didn't use the pound? Is this below accurate?
"And there are some very strong, practical, hard-headed reasons why continuing to use the same currency is in the interests of people across the rest of the UK."
She said exports from England into Scotland were worth £60 billion a year, adding that if Scotland used a different currency this would "cost England hundreds of million of pounds in transaction costs".
Ms Sturgeon continued: "Right now oil and gas exports contribute about £30 billion to the UK balance of payments. If we don't have a shared currency that is removed from the UK's balance of payments and the UK trade deficit goes through the roof, that has an impact on the value of sterling."0 -
The Scottish government say it could generate as much as £57bn in tax revenue by 2018. The Office for Budget Responsibility predicts oil tax revenue will drop from £6.7bn this year to £4.1bn by 2017-18
Ms Sturgeon could be accused of presenting her case in the best possible light0 -
The staunch defense of the currency union idea by Salmond / Sturgeon amounts to nothing less than their implied admission that they can't see an independent Scotland survive without the Pound Sterling, and the safety rUK can give to the currency.0

There's a whole lot of difference between a currency union and the simple use of the Pound as currency.
The Scottish Pound was the unit of currency in Scotland long before the union of the two kingdoms of Scotland and England. So Scotland has as much right to use the Pound as any other country in the UK.
So if Scotland were to vote for independence it could still use the Pound and peg its value to that of Pound sterling just as happened with Ireland.
Workable or not? That's another matter altogether.
You are talking too long ago, where a pound may hve been based on a pound weight of something usch as say, silver?
You aren't talking about GBP, and if the new independant Scotland wants to call its currency the Scottish Pound no one cares, but that wont make it Sterling GBP.
After all, what about all the currencies in t he world that call themselves the Dollar? Not all of them are linked to the USD. And those that are, are helpless when their economies and the US one aren't in sync.
If you want to link your currency you need to link the countries.0 -

So if banks were aquired, weren't they aquired by the larger bank?
Natwest as a brand is only being revived now as it isn't as tainted by the failed RBS. Perhaps prior to being flogged off?0
