I think this sums up the SNP position quite admirably - get the yes vote and then worry about whether or not it's going to be an economic disaster for Scotland afterwards.

I don't buy the nationalist point that at least it will be their own mistakes. They will still be blaming the remainder of the UK rather than their own policies.

This is not a partisan point... no different to the attitude of our other politicians and UK election promises.

i think they have made it clear. and it is accepted in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao that Spain will veto Scotland joining the EU. this September's election will be watched extraordinarily closely in Spain. and let's be clear, they don't give a stuff about You or I or Scotland or England...they have their own agendas.

Spain allowing Scotland to pave the way for the Basques to clear off with their tax take is simply not going to happen.

The Spanish position is that they would veto Scottish membership of the EU if Scotland declared independence unilaterally - that is why they do not recognise Kosovo as Kosovo acted unilaterally.

Scotland isn't acting unilaterally. Catalonia is acting unilaterally.

Spain will not want Scotland to pave the way for Catalonia or the Basque Country by being admitted to the EU having broken away from the UK....unilaterally or not. they are openly determined to block any break up of Spain.

If the rest of the UK doens't have a vote, looks kinda unilateral to me.

Try reading the Edinburgh Agreement. If Scotland votes for independence it will be fully endorsed by the UK. That's not unilateral.

If the UK votes to leave the EU do you think all of Europe would need to agree?

There is nothing in the Edinburgh Agreement that says that independence means Scotland can have whatever they wish to have.
