Add a bit of English xenophobia into the mix though.....
Hopefully we can help move things along.0 -
That begs the question then why that Scottish Government didn't do the honourable thing then and bailed out its banks when they were on the brink of collapse.
That's typical of the sort of rubbish that's currently spoken. I could say that it was the London arm of RBS that caused all the problems but that's largely irrelevant seeing as banks operate within a UK jurisdiction, not a Scottish or English one. Who do you think gets Scottish tax revenues and corporation tax from the likes of RBS? Yes, the very same HM Treasury who's oversight and lack of effective monitoring presided over the collapse of the banks in the first place, ran up the £1.3 trillion deficit they are now (rightfully) keen to ensure Scotland would take a share of, and therefore are exactly the people who should and did bail the banks out.0 -

LOL, you are truly oily Al's child. Anyone not agreeing with you is speaking rubbish etc, and all mistakes have been made south of the border.
Do you really believe some rogue arm of RBS did something that was not 100% in line with Fred Goodwin's orders?0 -
Very selective quoting innovate, or did you just not read all of the reply? I said I could blame London but I didn't. You're trying to say that because a UK bank is registered in Edinburgh, then for some reason UK banking rules don't apply and the Scottish government should cough up? That's just nonsense.
This seems to be the current fad. To put over some ridiculous viewpoint and when faced with the facts, just throw out an accusation or two about people being know-alls. Cue another Salmond jibe.....
Try checking out how the UK banking system works and check the figures to see how Scotland more than pays its way in the UK. Or just take everything you hear as gospel and believe that Scotland is a financial drag on the rest of the UK.0 -
Whatever Fred the Shred did (establishment knighthood let us not forget), he did it all on the watch of a Westminster government, British treasury and regulators/BOE.
It's not much of an argument nowadays to say the Scots would be indulging in risk to drop the "Rolls Royce" handling of the economy and safeguarding of the taxpayer pound of the British government! This is where the no vote falls down since Gideon at al talk as if the Scots would be turning their backs on the German economy :rotfl:0 -

London arm? Is that a Salmond quote?
Without a plan B. Business will have to assess its options. There's nothing worse than uncertainty. Moving an office is an easy task.0 -
Britain means so much more to England,I drive a cab edinburgh, and English punters I pick up are genuinely sad if Scotland left.

As to Defence: I don't keep any eye on all matters scottish independence, but if there was a plan on how Scotland could provide its own defence, I am sure I would have heard of it.
i haven't followed this either, but i can answer it anyway. it hardly matters, because there is no country both willing and able to invade the UK, or either part of it after separation. most "defence" is really about intervening in other countries, not defence at all.0 -

Good news is, they will be responsible to fund their own way out of the next disaster as and if Scotland votes for independence. Mind you, there is always the IMF........
The banking bailout happened on a geographic point-of-business basis - otherwise how do you explain "British" banks getting lender of last resort facilities from the US federal reserve.0
