Where can you buy coconut flour? Is almond flour just ground almonds?

I use ground almonds in curries to thicken cream sauces, but the Tesco ground almonds are expensive.

I just use ground almond for almond flour.

Well, the pancakes didnt turn out particularly great...fell apart in the pan and i wont make them again. However, they dont taste too bad covered in coconut cream, so feel free to play with the recipe if you like!

How about this WantobeSE, I've tried it before and it was lovely. This is a recipe for 1.

1 egg, 50g of ground almonds cinnamon and low carb sweetner to taste (splenda, maple syrup agarve etc) mix to a smooth mix in a microwave proof bowl and blitz for 1 min maybe longer depending on your mix and it should come out all cakey. smother in butter and more "sugar" to taste.

Got mine from Morrisons online. It's pricey but 25 grams makes 4-6 pancakes. So much nicer than almonds which can be gritty.

If you do the pancakes low and slow, wait until the top has bubbles and set before flipping, then they hold together better; about 3-4 minutes first side, then 1 minute after flipping.

I got mine from H&B on the buy 1 get 1 for a penny type of deal. Just looked they have http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/tiana-organic-coconut-baking-flour-60076229 half price at the moment. Looks a good deal.

Yes, all nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and flours are expensive in supermarkets, and come in such small tubs too.

High street 'Health Food' shops are also expensive and not as healthy as we think they are. Some of the hidden ingredients are not 'healthy'.

I buy my almond flour from Ebay and usually pick up 1Kg for around £12

If you've got a large Tesco it's worth checking out the 'world foods' or Asian cooking aisles where bulk packets of things like lentils lurk at much cheaper prices. The Assani cashews are also much cheaper in bulk than the ones in the nuts section.
