I have been eating a handful of grapes if I have a sugar craving - luckily I stopped eating chocolate about 6 months ago as it was giving me terrible problems with acid reflux and I am no longer getting chocolate cravings. I now am only having cravings for fresh granary bread
Thanks for the replies - its really encouraging. I will stick with it but was expecting to have lost something not to have put extra on.
Grapes are very high carb, so i would avoid those. The lowest carb fruits are blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. Eat a little of these though, not handfuls.
The more high carb foods you eat, the more you will crave the carbs and sugars.
Eating more fat eliminates the cravings (in my experience).0 -
Thank you for the replies, much appreciated.
With regards to fruit, I have also been eating an apple or a pear as a snack. Should I stop this too and stick to berries?0 -

I have stuck to only eating quality meat, eggs, loads of veg, some cheese, few nuts each day. Where have I gone wrong?
I am eating a full fat yoghurt with small handful of blueberries for breakfast or 2 scrambled eggs. Lunch is chicken breast or pork chop with veg. Then salad with cheese or ham for tea.
I am thinking of giving up as I don't want to put more weight on. I need to lose 1.5 stones
One week doesn't mean much. Have you taken other measurements? Are they going down or up? The scale isn't the best way to measure fat loss. Weight doesn't really matter. Body fat does.
One pound is neither here or there, drink an extra cup of tea before weighing yourself and thats approx your pound right there.0 -
I'd drop the peas and carrots, apples and pears. Citrus aren't good either. Berries are the best fruits when you're getting started.
As fireblade said, measure the inches. I had an old pair of size 12 jeans I couldn't do up - a 4 inch gap between button and hole. I was determined to get back in them. Now I'm wearing size 10 and the old jeans have about 4 inches of slack in them. I didn't have a tape measure but I'm sure I've lost about 6-8 inches off my waist. Carrying fat around the waist is the most dangerous place to carry it, and low carbing shifted it. It wasn't a quick fix, took about 5-6 months to shift a stone.Make £2025 in 2025

Ooh that's a very useful guide. I hadn't realised cashews had so many carbs, I'll cut back and add in the pecans and Brazils.Make £2025 in 2025

I don't eat any fruit now, just leafy greens and occasionally some cauliflower rice or in a cheese sauce made with cream and no thickener. If I get a sweet craving then I have a sugar free jelly once or twice a week.
Just had half a chicken crown (saved a bit for tomorrow lunch) and cabbage casserole, recipe from diet doctor.
I'm eating so much less, partly because I'm full, but also because so much protein and fat makes me feel a bit ick after a whil.
Just a query, when I make the microwave egg custard, it goes hard and is a bit like a vanilla omelette. I've tried lowering the time, but then it's still liquid underneath. It's not bad, but I don't get that proper custard texture. I don't want to put the oven on just for one little pudding though.Noli nothis permittere te terere

I've not been posting for a week or so, but I've still been reading and eating (mainly) low carb.
I'm still experimenting with the Tom Kerridge book and they are mostly delicious.
However I must tell you about a recipe recommended to me by a friend - cabbage casserole. If I'd come across it, I wouldn't have paid any attention due to the name but it's amazing! I could have eaten it all! We made half the recipe and had a quarter each with Tom's turkey burgers. It will be a real regular in my house now!

A woman's weight can go up and down by a couple of pounds from day to day due to water so don't worry about adding 1 pound.
Also, when I started, I stayed the same weight for about 3 weeks but then it started to drop off.
Make sure you're getting plenty of green veg for the vits and mins but not peas as they are high carb.
Plus, you might need more fat. More fat means less cravings and you will find you don't need to snack.0 -

Wow the cabbage casserole looks so yummy. I can't believe that you can eat this sort of food and still lose weight!
I have ordered the Tom Kerridge book to get some ideas for meals.0
