Phone call idiots....

I'm with imoneyop, I just don't understand why people want to call back a number that doesn't belong to anybody they know.
I never check my phone to see what numbers might have tried to contact me as I believe if anybody really wanted to speak to me, they will call again.
Lets say for instance your daughters phone run out of battery and she needed to call you in an emergency at 2-3am and used a friends or strangers phone..........0 -
^^Exactly. And numerous other reasons someone might not be able to complete the call or leave a message but still need to speak with you or you to them.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Why should he? After all it was THEM who called HIM.
And note that the OP doesn't say either way whether or not he had already identified himself/his company.)
If you call me & don't leave a message, just hang up then I will call to find out 1) who you are/what company & 2) what you wanted.
Arrogance is calling someone, not leaving a message then having the gall to complain when they call back asking whay you called them. Have some manners & leave a message. Simple. Why would anyone bother calling back a missed call that they don't recognise? If the caller can't be bothered to leave a message then as far as I'm concerned their call wasn't important and they get ignored.
Why don't we have CLI and CTI? We're a small not-for-profit in the arts world. We can't afford it. Plus if they are calling from a workplace - the switchboard may withhold the number automatically or not be unique.
So is "Hello, it's Spike Blodgewort - someone on this number tried to call me" really a difficult sentence to construct?I need to think of something new here...0 -
I hate it when I ask people for a contact number at work and they don't know their own number or they say "the number I'm calling from", our office phones don't have caller display and 1471 doesn't work, so we're unable to find this out.
One of the parents from the school, if I have reason to call her and her husband answers, he says "who's speaking please?" in a really abrupt way and I hate it, no hello or anything.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
Totally off topic, but not really...
My dad doesn't answer the phone very quickly. When it rings, he picks it up, then looks at the number, then thinks who it might be, then answers it.
He stares at the phone for several seconds, rather than answering and saying hello.
Sometimes I call him and it goes through to voicemail. As I'm leaving a message he calls me back. It wasn't that he didn't get to the phone on time, it's that he was looking at the number, rather than answering.
But back on topic, if company XYZ wants to talk to someone and there is no reply, then the company should learn to leave a message, including all pertinent information. If they are too stupid to do that, then they will end up with people phoning them back who have no clue why they were being called in the first place.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
One reason a lot of people would call back an unknown number is in case they have won a prize. If they cannot contact the winner they will give the prize to somebody else."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Quite simple really, it is more than likely a call for you, nothing more nothing less.
No, it is more than likely a sales call - someone who wanted to speak to me and had a valid reason for doing so would leave a message on the answer phone.Lets say for instance your daughters phone run out of battery and she needed to call you in an emergency at 2-3am and used a friends or strangers phone..........
If she existed, she would have the intelligence to leave a message on the answer phone and give the person whose phone she was using some money for the cost of the call.0 -
A few weeks ago I'd just got in from work late, my wife had some friends round and they were in the front room gassing. The landline rang almost as soon I got through the door, I answered it and got some numpty saying "Hello." [long pause], "You rang me". I said "no I didn't, I've just got in". "Yes you did".
After being accused of lying and explaining to this idiot that there are about 10 people in the house and any one of them could have phoned her, I asked who she was and I'll ask around if anyone rang her. She wouldn't say! So I said "bye then" and hung up. She phoned straight back and again asked why I rang her! I said "are you going to tell me who you are so I can ask if anyone rang you?" she said no, so I just left the phone off the hook...0 -

If your daughter existed great to have the intelligence to leave a message, like I have just been attacked, I am on my own and this person has let me borrow their phone to call you but they have to go, so call me back on er....errrr.eerrrr.
Either way I know if my phone rings, I am answering it regardless whether the number is saved or not, takes two seconds to see who it is and if it is not relative or doesn't interest me then only takes a couple of seconds to be civil and end the call.0 -
Well if it is a sales call they are calling to speak to you/account holder.

You appear to have a problem reading. This thread is not about answering calls, it is about ringing back missed calls.0
